Job details

We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Junior Capital Accountant to join the corporate finance team of a premier organization located at Brookfield Place in Downtown Calgary. Focusing on capital projects and associated project financials, this individual will play a key role in tracking project spend, performing variance analysis, and preparing core financial entries. In this role you will work closely with Project Managers and Finance teams to support full project lifecycles from initial setup through construction and final close-out. We are looking for an ambitious individual early in their career who understands business, systems, and people, and who is eager to make an impactful contribution. Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To Support the tracking, analysis, and reporting of capital project status and spend alongside Project Managers and Finance. Prepare month-end capital accounting entries, including transfers from Assets Under Construction (AUC) to fixed assets as projects are placed into service. Process fixed asset additions, disposals, and transfers, including related depreciation and gain or loss entries. Maintain capital project reports and supporting schedules, reviewing data for accuracy and investigating coding, budget, or category discrepancies. Prepare monthly PST working papers and self-assessments for applicable provincial capital projects (BC & SK) to ensure accurate recording and remittance. Support the ongoing development and improvement of capital planning systems, BI reporting tools, and workflow processes. Serve as a collaborative team resource, providing coverage for new capital project creation and workflow approval steps. Your Strengths Include Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; enrollment in or intent to pursue the CPA PEP program is considered a strong asset. Open to candidates earlier in their career with strong foundational accounting principles and a drive to learn. High degree of proficiency and strong familiarity with Microsoft Excel, as the majority of day-to-day modeling and reporting will be conducted in Excel. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) or BI dashboard reporting tools is considered a definite asset. Familiarity with fixed asset accounting principles, Assets Under Construction (AUC), and the capitalization process is beneficial. Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent problem-solving abilities and a collaborative, innovative mindset. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within tight deadlines.
