Job details

Employment Type: Full-Time (Permanent) Location: Remote (Ontario); optional GTA office Salary: $85,000–$90,000 Industry: Biotechnology / Life Sciences Position Type: Backfill About the Opportunity Our client is a well-funded, clinical-stage life sciences company developing therapies in an area of significant unmet medical need. With a late-stage clinical program underway and key milestones ahead, this is a chance to join at an important stage of the company's growth. This Accountant role is the hands-on core of a lean, three-person finance team. You'll own full-cycle accounting, from AP and vendor payments through accruals, reconciliations, payroll and month-end, and play a key part in quarterly reviews, audit prep and IFRS reporting. A signature piece of the role is tracking costs and building accruals on multi-year, multi-country clinical contracts, with a documented process and an experienced team behind you as you learn it. You'll report to the finance lead day to day, with direct access to senior finance leadership. The working model is fully remote and output-based. This team trades a strict 9 to 5 for real flexibility, and in return expects ownership and a strong work ethic. The package includes a stock option grant plus annual equity grants, which is rare at this level, along with medical, dental, LTD and life insurance, three weeks' vacation, untracked sick days, and a typically quiet holiday period. CPA dues are covered for anyone pursuing the designation. This seat suits a steady, self-directed accountant who wants a stable, long-term role and grows by deepening their expertise rather than chasing the next title. The last person in this role stayed four years. Key Responsibilities Record day-to-day transactions in QuickBooks and route invoices for approval Prepare weekly payment runs and set up payments for approval in the banking platform Track vendor statements and chase missing invoices and outstanding payments until closed Maintain billing schedules and track costs against multi-year, multi-country vendor and clinical contracts Prepare journal entries and quarterly accruals for clinical site and patient fees Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations Perform month-end and quarter-end close Support quarterly IFRS reporting and management reporting Prepare quarter-end and year-end working paper files and support quarterly reviews and the annual audit Support the monthly payroll process Prepare quarterly HST filings Support internal controls processes, including checklists and timely sign-offs What You Bring 3+ years of hands-on, full-cycle accounting experience (AP, JEs, accruals, reconciliations, month-end) Strong accrual skills, ideally including contract-based accruals (clinical, project or vendor contracts) Persistent follow-through with vendors on missing invoices and payments Self-directed: you know what needs to happen next without being told Strong work ethic and ownership; comfortable trading a strict 9 to 5 for flexibility and accountability for results Comfortable working remotely and independently, while asking questions freely Strong attention to detail and solid Excel skills Nice to Have Biotech, pharma, clinical research or other life sciences experience IFRS reporting exposure QuickBooks experience CPA designation or progress toward one Next Steps We do appreciate all interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
