Job details
RLB People is partnering with our client, a growing and successful agriculture-based business, to hire a Payroll and Benefits Specialist for its team in Minto, Ontario. This is an existing, currently vacant position that plays a critical role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting benefits administration and key HR processes. This is a hands-on payroll role in a complex, deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will manage high-volume weekly payroll across 16 payroll reporting segments, including manual piecework calculations. Strong payroll experience, particularly with manual piecework calculations, is essential. The weekly cycle makes the work consistent and can be demanding at peak times, so accuracy, sound judgment and the ability to stay organized under firm deadlines are critical. What You Will Do • Process accurate and timely high-volume weekly payroll using ADP payroll software across 16 payroll reporting segments. • Complete and verify manual piecework calculations, investigate discrepancies and ensure earnings are accurately reflected in each payroll cycle. • Administer benefit and group RRSP programs, including enrolments, plan changes, terminations and remittances. • Reconcile benefit and WSIB accounts at month-end and prepare related reports and supporting documentation. • Respond promptly and professionally to employee and manager questions regarding payroll, benefits and expenses. • Complete year-end payroll reconciliations and support the accurate production of T4s and other required tax documents. • Maintain complete payroll records for legislative, internal control and external audit requirements. • Identify and implement improvements to payroll workflows, controls and documentation. • Partner with Human Resources to process new hires, terminations, wage changes, vacation accruals and other employee updates accurately and on time. • Provide administrative HR support, including offer letters, onboarding documentation, reporting and other records as required. What You Bring • Progressive, hands-on payroll experience, including ownership of a high-volume weekly payroll cycle. • Demonstrated experience completing and validating manual piecework payroll calculations. This is a key requirement for the role. • Energized by detailed work, take ownership of deadlines and understand that payroll accuracy directly affects employees. • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation through the National Payroll Institute, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. • Strong working knowledge of Ontario employment standards and payroll-related legislative requirements. • Experience with payroll reconciliations, year-end processing, benefits administration and audit support. • Experience with ADP or comparable payroll software, plus proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. • High degree of accuracy, discretion and respect for confidential employee and business information. • Excellent organization, prioritization and time-management skills, with the ability to meet non-negotiable weekly deadlines. • Calm, adaptable and solutions-oriented approach in a fast-paced environment with competing demands. • Clear, professional communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with employees, leaders, HR and Finance. Work Environment and Physical Requirements • Office-based work in Minto, Ontario, using standard office technology and equipment. • Extended periods of seated computer work, regular data entry and review of detailed payroll and financial records. • Manual dexterity and visual attention sufficient to work accurately with computer systems, spreadsheets and source documents. • Consistent availability during critical payroll processing periods and the ability to manage workload fluctuations associated with weekly deadlines.
