Contract 6 months , may be longer The Assistant Controller will support the Senior Controller in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations while taking an increasingly strategic role in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis. This position will support the overall accounting function, lead month-end and year-end close activities, prepare financial statements and management reporting, and help ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and internal controls. The Assistant Controller will also serve as a key backup to the Senior Controller, providing continuity in financial leadership, reporting, and decision-making across FFM, PPA, and PFI operations when required. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who is ready to expand their responsibilities and progress toward a broader financial leadership role. Key Responsibilities Transactional Finance Support the Senior Controller in overseeing daily accounting operations, including Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely processing. Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Respond to vendor, customer, and employee inquiries professionally and in a timely manner. Ensure financial documents are accurately processed, organized, filed, and maintained in accordance with company policies and procedures. Financial Reporting & Close Lead and coordinate month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely completion. Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports. Analyze actual results against budgets and forecasts and investigate significant variances. Identify financial trends and provide insights and recommendations to support management decision-making. Support the preparation of financial information for senior management. Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Prepare financial analysis and reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making. Review and summarize capital expenditure requests and assess the financial/business case for proposed investments. Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insights and identify opportunities for improved performance. Audit, Tax & Compliance Coordinate with external auditors and provide required documentation and supporting schedules. Support compliance with applicable provincial and federal tax filing requirements. Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes. Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting. ERP & Business Reporting Support the accuracy and integrity of financial data within the ERP system. Assist with ERP reporting, process improvements, and system enhancements. Develop sales, financial, and management reports for leadership. Utilize data visualization and reporting tools to present financial information in a clear and meaningful manner. Leadership & Business Partnership Serve as a trusted financial partner to management and operational teams. Provide financial insights and analysis to support business and operational decisions. Act as a backup to the Senior Controller when required. Take on increasing responsibility for financial leadership, reporting, and decision-making across FFM, PPA, and PFI operations. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to the development of a high-performing finance function. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. CPA designation or actively working toward CPA designation strongly preferred. Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to take on increasing levels of responsibility and leadership. Strong understanding of transactional accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close processes. Experience with SAP ERP systems - Must Have Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, charts, complex formulas, and financial analysis. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Proactive approach to process improvement and operational efficiency. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across departments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Working Conditions Primarily office-based with regular interaction across departments. Extended periods of computer and desk work, with movement throughout the office as required. Occasional extended hours may be required during month-end, year-end, budgeting, and financial reporting cycles. Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is required, and a CPA designation or progress toward one is strongly preferred. Candidates should have at least five years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing, strong technical accounting and Excel skills, and experience with SAP ERP.
