This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Financial Controller | Payments & Fintech based in Canada. We are seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to build and lead the financial operations of a growing payments business. In this fully remote, full-time role, you will take ownership of core finance activities, from high-volume payment reconciliations to financial reporting and cash management. You will work closely with leadership to establish reliable financial controls and scalable processes that support continued growth. Your work will span multiple payment processors, merchant accounts, banking relationships, and business entities. You will also develop clear profitability insights and improve the efficiency of finance operations through automation. This is an opportunity to shape a developing finance function and contribute directly to the success of a growing fintech environment. \n Accountabilities Reconcile high-volume payment transactions across processors, Merchant Identification Numbers (MIDs), banks, and merchants, including processing fees, reserves, refunds, and chargebacks. Lead the month-end closing process, ensuring accurate and timely financial records and reporting. Oversee financial reporting, cash forecasting, and multi-entity accounting activities. Manage merchant settlements, payouts, liquidity, and financial controls to ensure accurate and reliable fund flows. Develop and deliver profitability reporting across merchants, payment processors, and legal entities, providing leadership with clear financial insights. Build, improve, and automate finance processes, particularly payment reconciliation and financial operations, to support business growth and operational scalability. Establish and maintain robust accounting procedures and controls across the payments business. Requirements: At least 7 years of experience in accounting and finance, including direct responsibility for financial close processes and internal controls. At least 3 years of hands-on experience in payments, merchant acquiring, Merchant of Record (MoR), Payment Facilitator (PayFac), or fintech operations. Proven experience reconciling payment processor settlements through to bank deposits and merchant payouts. Strong understanding of payment flows, transaction fees, reserves, refunds, chargebacks, and merchant settlement processes. Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting systems and cash management processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to investigate discrepancies and maintain financial accuracy in high-volume environments. Ability to take ownership of finance operations, build scalable processes, and work effectively in a fast-moving business. CPA designation, SQL knowledge, or experience with automation tools would be considered an asset. Benefits: Full-time, fully remote position based in Toronto, Canada.
