About the role
Founding Full-Stack Software Engineer Ironbooks · Full-time · Remote (Canada)
We're building AI-powered software that runs the books and the growth engine for trades contractors — and we need a mid-level full-stack engineer who can both ship clean product on our stack and actually understand the financial data underneath it. If you've worked on small-business bookkeeping or financial software and you build fast with AI, this is a rare fit.
We're at ~100 paid users with NO marketing, have product-market fit, and are planning to scale to 1,000 users by end of next year, and 2,500 by 2028. This opportunity has HUGE upside for the right person.
What you'll do Own features end-to-end across our platform — frontend, backend, deploy — for both our client-facing product and our internal bookkeeping engine. Build on our stack: React, Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase (Postgres), Vercel, GitHub — AI-native, using Claude Code / Cursor daily, but reviewing everything before it ships. Work directly with our bookkeeping and accounting team to turn real accounting workflows (chart of accounts, transaction reclassification, reconciliation, month-end close) into reliable software. Integrate the financial plumbing — QuickBooks, Plaid, Stripe — and make the numbers provably correct, because a wrong number on a client's books is not an option. Work close to real users, iterate on their feedback, harden what's there, and keep everything fast and reliable as we scale from ~100 to 1,000+ clients.
What you need (the two big ones)
- Solid full-stack ability on our stack. 2-4 years shipping production web apps end-to-end. Strong with React/Next.js + TypeScript on the front, and comfortable owning the backend and a Postgres-style database (Supabase a plus). You build AI-native and have a real point of view on when to trust the tools and when not to.
- Financial / small-business bookkeeping experience. You've built or worked on software that touches accounting, bookkeeping, or financial data for small businesses — and you understand the concepts, not just the code. Comfortable with things like general ledgers, chart of accounts, reconciliation, accrual vs. cash, P&L and balance sheets, and integrations like QuickBooks, Plaid, or Stripe. You care obsessively about correctness — you're the person who can't rest until the numbers tie out.
Bonus points You understand the trades — painting, electrical, plumbing, home services — or have worked with contractors and get how they actually run their businesses. Experience going from QuickBooks-dependent to being the source of truth. Side projects, an app, an agent you built for fun — we love builders. An eye for clean, simple UX.
Our stack React · Next.js · TypeScript · Supabase (Postgres) · Vercel · GitHub · Claude / AI tooling · QuickBooks · Plaid · Stripe APIs
Logistics Remote, anywhere in Canada. Full-time. Work directly with the founder and a small, sharp team — short feedback loops, real ownership. Compensation: competitive base (~$90–120k depending on experience) + bonuses and potential equity, with clear room to grow as we do.
Why join We've got real traction (~100 clients, strong margins, zero marketing spend so far) and a distribution engine most startups would kill for. What we need now is world-class product. You'll own big pieces of it, ship every week, work shoulder-to-shoulder with the founder, and get sharp fast on the intersection of financial software and AI. If you want your work to actually ship and matter; and you like the idea of building the financial backbone for an entire trade.. this is it.

That's where Ironbooks comes in.
