About the role
The Remote Bookkeeper will be responsible for managing day-to-day bookkeeping activities for a portfolio of private enterprise clients. The successful candidate will ensure accurate financial records, maintain payroll processing, perform reconciliations, and support clients with their accounting needs using cloud-based accounting software.
Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for a portfolio of private enterprise clients Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations Prepare and review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules Process payroll and maintain payroll records using Wagepoint Prepare and file payroll remittances and other government reporting requirements Record and reconcile sales taxes (GST/HST, PST, and other applicable taxes) Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures Collaborate with clients to gather documentation and resolve accounting discrepancies Support the preparation of year-end working papers for external accountants Maintain organized and secure digital client files Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies through technology and automation Provide exceptional client service and timely communication
Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping experience within a public accounting, bookkeeping, or outsourced accounting firm environment Advanced knowledge of full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, sales tax filings, and month-end close processes Thorough understanding of Canadian bookkeeping, payroll, and GST/HST requirements Experience preparing year-end working papers and supporting external accountants during year-end engagements Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines Exceptional written and verbal communication skill Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other cloud-based business application
