Financial Director
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Financial Director to lead the organization's finance and accounting operations. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit coordination, compliance, cash flow management, and internal controls. The successful candidate will work closely with executive leadership to support sound financial decision-making, operational excellence, and the organization's long-term financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the organization's finance and accounting functions. Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, budgets, and financial forecasts. Develop, manage, and monitor annual budgeting and forecasting processes to support organizational objectives. Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to senior leadership to support business planning and informed decision-making. Oversee cash flow management, financial performance, and resource allocation to ensure financial stability. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal financial policies and procedures. Establish, maintain, and enhance internal controls, financial processes, and risk management practices. Coordinate the annual external audit and act as the primary liaison with auditors, financial institutions, and external advisors. Prepare financial reports and presentations for executive leadership and, where applicable, the Board of Directors or finance committees. Partner with department leaders to support operational planning, financial accountability, and organizational growth. Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting processes, and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications CPA designation or an equivalent combination of education and progressive finance experience. 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including several years in a leadership or management role. Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, auditing, compliance, and internal controls. Proven experience developing financial processes, implementing improvements, and supporting strategic organizational planning. Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience working in a nonprofit, charitable, public sector, or other mission-driven organization is considered an asset. Experience with ERP systems, financial management software, and advanced reporting tools is considered an asset.
