Our financial services client in downtown Toronto is seeking a hands-on Java Architect. You will partner closely with our client to help finalize solution design and define the overall architecture, and then collaborate with offshore teams to bring those solutions to life. "This position requires a hands-on engineer who is actively involved in building solutions (strong coding expertise), designing and architecture".

The ideal candidate is an SME (Subject Matter Expert) or Technical Consultant who brings deep expertise in development, engineering, and architecture— and enjoys driving end-to-end technology solutions.

*** This is a Hands-on Engineering Role (not a Managerial position), with a strong focus on Java microservices architecture and platform engineering. We’re looking for someone who brings a strong engineering foundation along with solid architectural expertise.***

Experience: 8 to 13 years Background in Financial Services/ Fintech operations within banking, asset management, or payments, or Capital Markets domains

Eligibility criteria: Applications are limited to ONLY Canadian Residents (Canadian Nationals, Permanent Residents, and Open Work Permit holders) — NOT accepting students, and other work visa types Preference for Toronto and GTA — based candidates. Willing to travel to the Sapient office (134 Peter Street, 12th Floor, Toronto, ON M5V 2H2) or Client office downtown, with a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week onsite.

Role Overview: The Java Engineer will be part of the Capital Markets Technology – Middle Office organization, responsible for designing, delivering, and supporting mission‑critical platforms that underpin trade processing, risk, P&L, and post‑trade workflows. This role requires a strong hands-on technical leader who can operate within a highly regulated, large-scale banking environment, partner closely with business stakeholders, and lead teams to deliver stable and scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and enhancement of Java-based middle office platforms supporting Capital Markets. Partner with Front Office, Middle Office Operations, Risk, Finance, and Compliance teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. Own system architecture, technical design, and code quality across the application stack. Drive technology standards, best practices, and SDLC adherence aligned with enterprise governance. Lead code reviews, mentor developers, and provide technical guidance to onshore/offshore teams. Support regulatory initiatives, audit findings, and risk remediation activities. Collaborate with DevOps, QA, and Infrastructure teams for CI/CD, releases, and environment management. Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Technical Skills: Strong hands-on exp. with Core Java (Java 8+) in enterprise environments. Extensive exp. with Spring / Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices architecture. Strong understanding of multithreading, concurrency, memory management, and JVM tuning. Exp. with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and strong SQL skills. Hands-on exp. with messaging and event-driven systems (Kafka, MQ, JMS). Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Maven/Gradle. Exposure to cloud-native or hybrid architectures (AWS/Azure) is preferred- any level of working experience is okay.

Middle Office & Capital Markets Experience (Preferred): Proven experience working in Middle Office Technology within Investment Banking or Capital Markets. Strong understanding of Trade lifecycle and post‑trade processing, Trade enrichment, confirmations, settlements, and reconciliations, and Risk and P&L reporting. Exposure to one or more asset classes — Equities, Fixed Income, FX, Derivatives. Exp. working with risk, regulatory reporting, and compliance-driven systems is highly valued.

Leadership & Client-Facing Skills: Demonstrated experience leading development teams in a large banking environment. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage business partners and senior technology stakeholders. Comfortable operating within structured processes, enterprise controls, and regulatory standards. Strong problem-solving, ownership mindset, and attention to detail.

Additional information: Annual Pay Range (Total compensation in CAD): $140,000 - $170,000 The ranges shown above represent a grouping of relevant ranges currently in use at Publicis Sapient. The actual range for this position may vary based on location and the specific skills required for the role.
