About the role
Company Description McFarlan Rowlands Insurance Brokers Inc. is a customer-focused brokerage with roots dating back to 1896 and a strong presence across Southwestern Ontario. Following a recent merger with McDougall Insurance Brokers, supported by Definity Financial, the organization continues to prioritize clients and community involvement through front-line brokers in smaller towns and cities. With over 300 employees and 25 offices, McFarlan Rowlands serves a diverse range of businesses and individuals. The brokerage leverages over a century of industry experience and strong relationships with leading insurance providers to offer coverage options and features beyond those typically available at an average brokerage, while maintaining a personalized service approach.
McFarlan Rowlands is part of McDougall Insurance Group (MIG), the 8th largest brokerage in Canada. Our model allows Account Executives to focus on what they do best: selling and building relationships — not servicing a book. Opportunities are available across Ontario.
Role Description The Personal Lines Account Executive is a full-time, hybrid, in person or remote role responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of personal insurance clients. Day-to-day tasks include advising clients on coverage options, preparing quotes, processing policy changes, renewals, and new business, and responding promptly to inquiries via phone, email, and digital channels. The role involves reviewing client needs, recommending appropriate personal lines products, and liaising with insurers to secure competitive terms. The Account Executive will maintain accurate client records, ensure adherence to regulatory and company standards, and collaborate with internal team members to deliver consistent, high-quality service. Proactive account management, cross-selling where appropriate, and contributing to retention and growth targets are key aspects of this position.
Our AEs benefit from: • Earning potential in excess of $100,000 • A robust pipeline of retail and group opportunities, including one of Canada’s largest brokerage first responder group programs • Strong referrals, established centres of influence and significant Commercial Lines cross-sell opportunities • An award-winning team of dedicated service brokers and a culture recognized as IBAO’s 2022 Brokerage of the Year (Large Brokerage category) • Dedicated administrative and in-house underwriting support • Applied Epic, CRM technology, strong insurer relationships and market access to 30+ insurance companies • A best-in-class, collaborative culture • The opportunity to qualify for our biannual 5-star luxury sales incentive trip
Qualifications Strong sales, client service and relationship management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal forms. Experience in personal lines insurance, including knowledge of home, auto, and other personal insurance products, policy structures, and underwriting guidelines. Proficiency with insurance brokerage management systems (Applied Epic), CRM tools, and standard office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, and document processing). Solid organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities to manage multiple client requests and deadlines in a remote environment. Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, policy processing, and compliance with regulatory and company procedures. Relevant insurance licensing or certification as required by provincial regulations (e.g., RIBO or equivalent), or the ability to obtain it within a defined timeframe. Previous experience in an insurance brokerage or financial services setting is an asset, along with familiarity with the Southwestern Ontario market. Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute positively to a client-centered, inclusive workplace culture.
About McFarlan Rowlands Insurance Brokers
McFarlan Rowlands Insurance Brokers is able to trace its roots back to 1896. Over the years, growth of our organization through acquisitions of local brokerages has given us a strong community identity. To service our broad client base, we maintain 16 offices across Southwestern Ontario.
McFarlan Rowlands did not become one of the largest independent insurance brokerages in Canada by accident. We insist upon complete independence from the insurance companies we represent so that we can provide our clients with the best coverage at the most competitive prices. When necessary, we are able to leverage our size and years of experience to offer our clients features, prices, and benefits that are unavailable to other brokerages.
In addition to our broad product portfolio, the team at McFarlan Rowlands excels at providing complete customer satisfaction. More than half of our clients have been referred to us by existing clients and that number continues to grow. Our corporate guidelines of client satisfaction, employee education and industry presence have proven themselves time and time again.
