The Opportunity
This position supports the Marketing & Trading team by providing accounting translation, reconciliation, and trade analytics support. You will support the front office analytics team and back office, ensuring trading activities, P&L, and revenue are effectively translated into accounting results. You will also provide coverage for trading analytics functions including position reporting and risk management. Collaboration with front, middle, and back-office teams is essential in this fast-paced, technologically advanced environment.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, maintain, and manage excel models that translate trading data from the ETRM system into accounting results and forecasts.
- Reconcile front-office analytics with back-office accounting results, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Partner with FP&A to support accrual forecasting, earnings estimates, and periodic close processes.
- Provide coverage for trading analytics functions including position reporting, P&L attribution, risk metrics, and fundamentals (as backup support).
- Support the migration of Excel/query-based models into Python and R.
- Aggregate and manage large datasets for accounting insight, risk reporting, and commercial and operational analysis.
- Identify and execute opportunities, including automation and process improvements.
- Operate adhering to compliance guidelines and the company's Code of Business Ethics.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, or similar.
- 4+ years of experience in trade accounting, trading analytics, risk management, or related operations.
- Strong accounting knowledge (accruals, revenue recognition, hedge accounting, P&L reporting).
- Understanding of risk concepts including position management, VaR, and mark-to-market.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; competency in Python and/or R.
- Experience working with ETRM systems.
- Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the energy industry or commodity trading.
- CPA, FRM, PRM, or CFA designation or candidacy.
- Experience migrating Excel workflows into Python/R.
- Familiarity with FP&A processes and SQL.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education will be considered.
Required Conditions/Compliance
- Valid authorization for international travel (e.g. U.S./Canada).
- Must pass pre-employment medical screening, including drug & alcohol testing.
- Valid driver's license with driving history upon request. Willingness to travel (~5% of schedule) for training, meetings, or assignments.
