Job Summary

Excel Career College is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial operations, payroll, financial reporting, and student financial management, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all areas. *Requirements *

  • Bachelor?s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 3?5 years of accounting or finance experience (education sector experience is an asset)
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and procedures, including ROE processing
  • Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and budgeting
  • Familiarity with software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Payworks, or similar systems)
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and tax compliance requirements
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations Management:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the operations of the accounting and financial departments.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, systems, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Act as the contact personnel for any financial and payroll-related matters and connect with third-party vendors as needed.

Payroll Management:

  • Organize and collect employee information and hours for semi-monthly payroll processing.
  • Process Records of Employment (ROEs) and manage all related payroll processes.
  • Handle leave and benefits processing related to payroll and filing supporting documents once updated.
  • Collect finance and payroll-related documents for new hires, ensuring proper record-keeping and filing of payroll supporting documents related to hires, absences, and terminations once updated in payroll.
  • Update the payroll system and employee database with current information, ensuring accurate inclusion and exclusion of employees from payroll to keep the system up to date.

Human Resources Support:

  • Assist in collecting and filing any payroll, time-off, and benefits-related HR documents for employees, ensuring compliance with payroll and company policies.
  • Provide necessary payroll, vendor, or payment information and reports to offer administrative support and assist with HR decisions.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare or coordinate the preparation of financial statements, summaries, cost-benefit analyses, and financial management reports.
  • Evaluate financial reporting systems and accounting procedures, making recommendations for improvements to senior management.

Trend Analysis:

  • Notify and report to senior management concerning any trends critical to the organization's financial performance.
  • Student Financial Management:
  • Create payment schedules for students and ensure timely payment collections.
  • Plan and prepare student T2 tax forms accurately and efficiently.

Other Financial Activities:

  • Assist in tax processing and other annual financial activities to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Conduct daily campus financial activities, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Process reconciliations and other financial tasks as assigned and required.
