About the Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our Finance team as a Junior Accountant. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles, some payroll processing, and benefits administration would be desirable. They should have 2-5 years of professional experience in these areas and hold a degree in a related field.
The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and self-directed, able to multitask, and willing to work overtime when necessary.
You would be responsible for areas of accounting and payroll within the Finance Department. This is a part-time role with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position.

What’s the job?
Your responsibilities as the Junior Accountant will include:
Accounting Functions:

Assist with month-end closing procedures and prepare accurate financial statements.

Ensure all external reporting requirements are fulfilled.

Record transactions accurately and completely.

Complete tax returns and remittances monthly and annually.

Meet all reporting deadlines (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual).

Maintain contract documentation.

Reconcile all bank accounts

Assist with working papers for the annual audit

Process payments according to schedule

Create Invoices and Credit Memos
Accounts Payable:
- Assist with the accounts payable process, ensuring correct account distribution and supporting documentation.
Payroll and Benefits Administration:
-
Assist in processing payroll accurately and on time.

Maintain payroll records, including timesheets, deductions, and benefits.

Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll and benefits.
-
Assist with payroll reconciliations and year-end reporting (T4s, ROEs, etc.).
Other Finance Responsibilities:

Update daily revenue reports.

Bill sales orders for constituents.

Prepare finance deposits/banking.
-
Prepare journal entries to ensure the accuracy of all general ledger accounts.
About You:

A deep commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Focus on the Family Canada.

A post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or its equivalent, with at least two to five years of relevant experience working in an accounting and payroll role.

General understanding of accounting regulations and processes

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Strong verbal and written English communication skills.

Proven problem-solving skills especially under pressure

Knowledge of payroll processing and related regulations would be considered an asset.

Strong sense of curiosity to learn and promote continuous improvement

Team player, willing to be flexible during the busy season to succeed as a team
