About the role

Payroll Manager Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and oversee the payroll function within a complex, fast-paced organization. This role is responsible for ensuring payroll transactions are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with legislative requirements and internal policies. Responsibilities The Payroll Manager will oversee all aspects of payroll operations, including payroll processing, reconciliation of payroll-related accounts, reporting, auditing, and compliance activities. The successful candidate will provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to the payroll team while identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiencies, and strengthen controls. Key responsibilities include: Manage and supervise the payroll team, including assigning workloads, monitoring performance, and providing coaching and support. Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll transactions while maintaining compliance with applicable legislation and organizational policies. Reconcile payroll accounts and related general ledger accounts, ensuring appropriate controls are in place. Audit and analyze payroll reports to identify discrepancies and implement solutions. Oversee year-end payroll requirements, including T4 reconciliation and reporting accuracy. Collaborate with Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, and other internal stakeholders to resolve payroll issues and support system improvements. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation, policies, collective agreements, and system requirements related to employee earnings and deductions. Provide strategic recommendations and support continuous improvement initiatives within payroll operations. Ensure payroll practices support a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace environment. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline. Payroll Management Certification (CPM) required. CHRP designation considered an asset. Minimum seven (7) years of progressive payroll experience, including at least five (5) years managing a payroll team. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with experience managing teams in a complex environment. Demonstrated ability to analyze payroll processes, troubleshoot system issues, and implement effective solutions. Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and best practices. Proficiency with payroll systems and tools, including Oracle, ROE Web, Microsoft Office 365, and related payroll reporting systems. Experience working with collective agreements and unionized environments is considered an asset. Bilingualism or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
