Role Description
The Senior Accountant will act as the Team lead for file production, ensuring tax and year-end files are delivered on time, to a high standard, and in line with internal procedures. This role will manage a team of staff accountants by assigning work, training, monitoring performance and time, and ensuring clients are billed appropriately based on the work performed.
This position reports directly to the Owner and will provide regular reporting on production metrics, team utilization, realization, turnaround times, and quality control, ensuring firm KPIs are consistently met.
Job Duties / Key Responsibilities Manage and review Canadian tax compliance and tax planning engagements for small business owners and high net-worth clients. Review and finalize T1, T2, T3, T5013, and related filings, including elections, disclosures, and supporting schedules. Review cross-border (Canada–U.S.) tax files where applicable, ensuring proper reporting, treaty positions, and documentation. Identify tax planning opportunities and provide written and verbal recommendations on owner-manager planning, corporate reorganizations, remuneration strategies, capital gains planning, and succession considerations. Review year-end corporate files, including coordination of financial statements, tax provisions, and tax reconciliation. Manage a portfolio of clients by maintaining timelines, deliverables, and consistent service quality while communicating status updates and requirements. Provide guidance and technical feedback to staff accountants through file reviews and day-to-day support. Maintain quality control standards by reviewing workpapers, ensuring completeness, reducing rework, and improving documentation. Research and interpret tax legislation and CRA administrative guidance and apply findings to client files. Support CRA matters including responding to requests, preparing audit support, handling notices, and assisting with objections when required. Collaborate with firm leadership on workflow improvements, templates, and best practices to improve efficiency during busy seasons. Identify additional client needs and support value-added advisory services where appropriate. Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with CPA standards and firm policies.
Qualifications CPA, CGA, CMA, CA or Equivalent (Licensed in Canada) or Enrolled in the CPA Program Enrolment in the In-Depth Tax Course is a major bonus Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in a small or large tax firm within Canada. Strong understanding of tax regulations and laws High Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills Exceptional verbal oral and written communication skills Proven ability to develop tailored client solutions that optimize tax outcomes, achieve financial objectives, and contribute to increased firm revenue.
What we offer Competitive base salary: $75,000 to $115,000 CAD annually (Bonus), based on experience and accounting-firm background.
