About the role
Your new company Our client is a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial real estate investment and management firm with a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential and industrial properties across Canada. The organization currently manages 66 properties and approximately 1,250 commercial tenants nationally, with significant plans for continued growth.
This is an owner-managed environment where decisions are made quickly, opportunities are actively pursued and the accounting platform is continuing to evolve. The team is currently implementing Yardi Voyager and building the procedures, controls and reporting practices needed to support its expanding portfolio.
Your new role As Commercial Property Accountant, you will take ownership of the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial properties.
You will prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages, complete month-end and year-end accounting, review rent rolls and tenant ledgers, and prepare annual budgets and CAM reconciliations. You will interpret commercial leases to determine billing obligations, recoverable expenses, chargebacks and rent escalations while working closely with Property Management and the broader accounting team.
You will also support acquisitions and due diligence, assist with forecasting and variance analysis, and contribute to the implementation of stronger accounting procedures and internal controls. Accounting technicians will provide transactional support with bank reconciliations, utilities, property taxes, chargebacks and recovery documentation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants more than a repetitive reporting role. You will be joining a growing national platform where there are real opportunities to take on larger portfolios, participate in major projects and progress toward future leadership positions.
What you’ll need to succeed You will bring at least five years of progressive property accounting experience, ideally within a commercial real estate portfolio. You must understand commercial leases and be confident completing CAM and operating cost reconciliations. Experience with Yardi is strongly preferred, particularly Yardi Voyager. You will also be comfortable preparing financial statements, budgets, forecasts and detailed portfolio reporting. A degree or accounting designation is not required. Practical commercial property accounting experience, technical capability and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment are the priorities.
This organization is entrepreneurial and evolving rather than highly structured. The successful candidate will be adaptable, solutions-oriented and comfortable helping to develop processes while managing their day-to-day portfolio responsibilities.
What you’ll get in return
• Base salary of $85,000–$100,000 • Discretionary annual bonus • Three weeks of vacation • Five personal days and one cultural day • Health insurance with 80% of premiums paid by the employer • Up to $2,500 annually toward continuing education • Regular employee recognition and team events • Strong opportunities for advancement within a rapidly growing national portfolio
