About the role

Our client, a growing organization, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead its accounting function. Reporting to the senior finance executive, this role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, maintaining effective internal controls, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, and supporting strategic business initiatives.

We're looking for a collaborative leader with strong technical accounting expertise and a passion for building efficient, scalable financial processes. This role is remote in Canada, but the team would prefer someone that is on the East Coast or can work EST hours.

What You'll Do

Financial Management & Reporting Lead the preparation of accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring financial information is complete and reliable Maintain accounting policies and procedures aligned with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements Analyze financial results and provide insights that support operational and strategic decision-making Coordinate the annual external audit and act as the primary liaison with auditors

Governance & Internal Controls Establish and strengthen internal controls that protect company assets and promote financial integrity Monitor financial performance, budgets, and expenditures, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and cost management Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial records Support ongoing compliance with applicable financial reporting and regulatory requirements

Leadership & Business Partnership Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement Partner closely with leaders across finance, operations, and HR to improve business processes and support organizational goals Participate in strategic initiatives, organizational growth projects, and business improvement efforts Contribute to financial systems enhancements, workflow optimization, and process automation Prepare financial analyses and support special projects for senior leadership

What You Bring

Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 5+ years of progressive accounting/financial management experience, including leadership responsibilities Prior audit experience at a public accounting firm Experience working within a privately held or PE-backed organization M&A experience, including pre- and post-acquisition accounting Strong knowledge of ASPE and financial reporting Hands-on experience with NetSuite Advanced proficiency in Excel and the Microsoft Office suite Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across an organization Comfort operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Preferred CPA or other recognized professional accounting designation Experience leading process improvement or financial transformation initiatives Exposure to business integrations, organizational growth initiatives, or other strategic finance projects
