Accountant
Expert Geophysics seeking an experienced and detail-oriented accountant to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, dependable, and comfortable managing day-to-day accounting activities for a medium-sized business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting payroll and benefits administration, reconciling accounts, preparing internal reports, and ensuring timely processing of transactions. Corporate tax filings are handled by an external accounting firm, but the accountant will be expected to provide accurate records and supporting documentation as required.
Job Type: This is a full-time role consisting of 40 hours per week. There is an existing vacancy for this position.
Employment Term: This is a permanent position.
Work Location: On-site at Newmarket, Ontario office.
Key Responsibilities:
· Establish and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and SOPs
· Track company assets and manage inventory records, including reconciliations, adjustments, and documentation, while developing processes and operating procedures to ensure accurate reporting and strong internal controls.
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using QuickBooks Online.
· Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
· Ensure all payroll remittances (source deductions, EHT, WSIB) are processed as per government requirements/deadlines
· Prepare and file annual reconciliation returns (EHT, WSIB)
· Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, vendor statements, and general ledger accounts.
· Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
· Support semi-monthly payroll processing for approximately 100 employees.
· Maintain payroll records and coordinate with HR or payroll providers as needed.
· Track employee expenses, reimbursements and company credit cards.
· Prepare monthly financial reports for management review.
· Assist with budgeting, cash flow tracking, and variance reporting.
· Maintain organized records for audits, year-end reporting, and external accountants.
· Prepare HST/GST information and supporting documentation for review or filing by external advisors, where applicable.
· Liaise with external accountants, payroll providers, banks, vendors, and internal departments.
· Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, company policies, and applicable recordkeeping requirements.
Qualifications
· Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping or full-cycle accounting experience, preferably in a medium-sized business.
· Experience supporting payroll processing.
· Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
· Proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
· Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
· Familiarity with Ontario employment-related payroll practices is an asset.
· Post-secondary education in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or business administration is preferred.
· Post secondary degree or diploma.
· An accounting or CPB (Certified Professional Bookkeeper) designation is an asset.
Compensation
This position offers a salary range of *$67,000 to $85,000 *annually. While the full range is posted for transparency, our target hiring rate for this role is typically at the midpoint of the range. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's skills, education and relevant experience as they relate to the role.
