Payroll Manager

Penn-co Construction is a leading construction company currently hiring a Payroll Manager to join our team working at our Steinbach office. We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Payroll Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of payroll administration across our organization. The successful candidate will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, union remittances, government filings, and year-end reporting while working closely with internal business units to support operational and financial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage full-cycle payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and in compliance with company policies, collective agreements, and applicable legislation
  • Prepare and reconcile union remittances and ensure timely submissions
  • Coordinate annual payroll reporting, including preparation and distribution of T4s and other year-end filings
  • Maintain and monitor payroll records, deductions, benefits, and taxable allowances
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and support month-end and year-end financial reporting
  • Work collaboratively with other business units, including Operations, HR, Accounting, and Project Teams, to support organizational objectives
  • Review and improve payroll processes, controls, and reporting procedures
  • Ensure compliance with CRA requirements, employment standards, and provincial regulations
  • Prepare payroll-related reports and analyses for senior management
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and labour cost reporting as required
  • Supervise and support payroll or accounting staff
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a professional and timely manner
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Payrol, Finance, or a related field; PCP designation is considered an asset

  • 3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in construction or a unionized environment

  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and remittance requirements

  • Experience preparing annual T4s and year-end payroll reconciliations

  • Proficiency with payroll and accounting software

  • Strong Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
