About the role
We are helping our national manufacturing client with a Assistant Controller search. This is a full-time permanent role with a hybrid work model (2 days on site), bonus, benefits, RRSP matching and more. Must be CPA designated and have SAP S4 Hana experience.
Key Responsibilities Manage inventory accounting activities across multiple Canadian locations, ensuring accurate inventory valuations, reconciliations, reserve calculations, and financial reporting while supporting effective inventory and working capital management. Collaborate closely with Site Controllers, Finance Business Partners, Operations, Planning, and Supply Chain teams to analyze inventory performance, identify key drivers, and provide financial insights that support business decisions. Prepare and present inventory reporting and analysis, highlighting trends, risks, and operational impacts to key stakeholders. Complete monthly financial reporting packages, perform variance analysis, and work with finance teams to develop clear commentary on financial performance and business results. Review revenue and cost of goods sold (COGS) to ensure transactions are accurately recorded and aligned with operational activities. Prepare, review, and approve balance sheet reconciliations for key asset and liability accounts, ensuring supporting documentation is complete and reconciling items are resolved promptly. Support the management of intercompany accounting transactions, while assisting with internal and external audit requirements. Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, improve internal controls, and drive finance transformation through automation, process improvements, and standardization initiatives.
Qualifications Extensive experience in accounting, financial reporting, or auditing, including hands-on inventory accounting within manufacturing, distribution, or other inventory-driven industries. Experience managing inventory reconciliations, inventory reserves, and inventory-related financial analysis. Proficiency with SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, or comparable ERP systems used for financial reporting and inventory management. Strong understanding of IFRS, accounting standards, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks. Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships across Finance, Operations, Planning, and Supply Chain functions to support business objectives. Experience working in complex, multi-location organizations with multiple stakeholders and changing priorities. Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to present financial information in a clear and meaningful way. Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. A continuous improvement mindset with experience supporting process enhancements, automation initiatives, and finance transformation projects.
