TFG is currently recruiting on behalf of a client in the distribution and industrial services industry for an Interim Director of Accounting based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
This is a full-time onsite leadership opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who can step into a fast-paced environment and provide immediate operational and strategic support during a critical transition period. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the finance function, leading accounting operations, and ensuring continuity across financial reporting and compliance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the day-to-day accounting operations within a multi-person finance team
- Oversee financial statement preparation, analysis, and internal financial reporting processes
- Support tax reporting requirements and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Manage and oversee accounts payable activities and related accounting functions
- Coordinate employee commission calculations and work closely with payroll teams on payouts
- Support and provide oversight on expense management processes and systems
- Assist with ongoing systems implementation initiatives, including commission management platforms
- Partner cross-functionally with finance leadership and operational teams to ensure business continuity
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, increased efficiencies, and reduction of operational risk within the accounting function
- Provide leadership and guidance in an environment where processes may be partially undocumented or evolving
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience in a senior accounting or finance leadership role
- Strong background in financial reporting, accounting operations, and team leadership
- Ability to quickly adapt and provide stability within a high-urgency environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Comfortable working cross-functionally and building trust quickly with internal teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a process improvement mindset
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems required
- Experience with Salesforce, Concur, and CaptivateIQ is considered a strong asset
- Prior experience supporting commission structures and payroll coordination is highly desirable
Pay: $75.00-$90.00 per hour
