About Our Client
Our client is the transportation software division of a global software organization. The business acquires, strengthens, and grows software and technology companies whose solutions support the daily movement of people.
The organization operates in a dynamic, acquisition-focused environment and regularly expands into new jurisdictions and geographic markets. Its continued growth creates ongoing opportunities to work on complex tax matters involving acquisitions, cross-border operations, corporate restructuring, and evolving international tax requirements.
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Tax Manager to join its growing global tax team.
Reporting to the Global Senior Tax Manager, the Tax Manager will support an acquisitive multinational group operating across multiple jurisdictions. This position will be responsible for Canadian corporate tax compliance, tax provisions, cross-border matters, acquisition due diligence, and post-acquisition integration.
The successful candidate will bring a strong technical foundation in Canadian corporate income tax and an interest in broadening their experience across U.S. and international taxation. Previous U.S. tax experience is not required, provided the candidate is motivated and prepared to learn.
This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA seeking exposure to live transactions, complex tax planning, international operations, and the integration of newly acquired businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the consolidated quarterly and annual tax provision process, including related tax disclosures, in accordance with IFRS and IAS 12. Prepare U.S. federal tax returns and supporting working papers. Coordinate with finance teams across multiple jurisdictions to ensure international tax filings are completed accurately and on time. Conduct tax due diligence as part of the mergers and acquisitions process. Identify tax risks, mitigating factors, planning opportunities, and potential transaction-structuring considerations. Participate in deal planning and provide tax-related recommendations throughout the acquisition process. Research complex Canadian, U.S., and international tax matters. Assist with corporate restructuring and tax-planning initiatives across multiple jurisdictions. Participate in the post-acquisition integration of newly acquired businesses. Support the implementation of tax compliance processes, reporting requirements, corporate financial systems, and governance standards within acquired companies. Maintain accurate tax basis, surplus, and supporting calculations. Manage tax-related matters escalated by regional and operating-company finance teams. Coordinate and manage external tax advisors as required. Work closely with internal finance, legal, corporate development, and operational stakeholders.
Qualifications
CPA designation or equivalent is required. Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Minimum of four years of progressive tax experience. Strong technical foundation in Canadian corporate income tax. Experience preparing and reviewing complex Canadian corporate tax returns. Experience preparing or reviewing quarterly and annual tax provisions under IFRS. Familiarity with IAS 12 is required. Exposure to tax due diligence, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, or cross-border matters is considered an asset. Familiarity with tax basis and surplus calculations. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent research, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical memoranda. High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines. Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative global team.
