About the role

What We?re Looking For Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Accountant oversees total accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance. This role ensures sound financial management, robust internal controls, and timely, accurate financial reporting in accordance with policy, legislation, government requirements, and non-profit accounting standards.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of government funded and non-profit sector accounting, internal controls, grant/fund accounting, and budgeting. They thrive in environments that require new structures, processes, and clarity, while maintaining empathy, respect, and accountability. They are comfortable liaising across,

and able to support the Senior Leadership team and Board Finance Committee in making informed decisions.

Job Responsibilities

As negotiated by the Executive Director, this position supports the following:

Financial Reporting & General Ledger

· Maintain an accurate, up-to-date General Ledger and produce all financial reports on a timely basis

· Oversee preparation and delivery of accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with applicable standards

· Analyze financial data regularly and communicate monthly and annual results clearly

· Manage cash flow monitoring and forecasting to support the financial health and resiliency of the organization

Compliance & Government Reporting

· Prepare accurate financial reports for government funders

· Oversee the filing of all required payroll and government reports, including T4s, T2200s, and applicable tax filing

· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal procedures, governing legislation, and regulatory requirements

· Stay current on labour standards practices as they pertain to payroll administration

Audit & Internal Controls

· Lead the annual audit process: prepare year-end working papers, coordinate with external auditors, ensure audit readiness, and implement adjustments from auditor findings

· Maintain and continuously strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures in consultation with the Executive Director

· Recommend and implement improvements to accounting systems and management practices

Budgeting & Strategic Support

· Take a lead role in the preparation of the annual organizational budget in collaboration with the Executive Director

· Support the Executive Director and, on occasion, the Board?s Finance Committee with financial analysis and reporting as needed

· Work with program and department leaders to build financial literacy and support program delivery through sound financial processes

Leadership

· Directly supervise the Payroll Accountant, providing guidance, support, and development

· Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable Finance department

Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) strongly preferred

? *Experience: *Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, ideally within the non-profit or charitable sector. Experience managing government-funded programs

· Demonstrated knowledge of non-profit accounting standards
