Accounts Receivable Manager
About the role
A growing and well-established organization within Ontario's construction sector is seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable Manager to lead its Accounts Receivable function. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and has a strong understanding of construction accounting practices.
In this role, you will oversee a team responsible for all aspects of Accounts Receivable while partnering closely with operations and project leadership to support large-scale construction projects across the province. Beyond day-to-day receivables management, you'll play a key role in month-end activities, cash flow management, reporting, and continuous process improvement. What You'll Be Responsible For
Accounts Receivable Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop the Accounts Receivable team supporting multiple construction projects across Ontario. Oversee the full construction billing cycle, including progress claims, monthly billings, change order billings, and final claims. Manage statutory and contractual holdbacks, holdback releases, and lien administration in accordance with Ontario's Construction Act. Monitor collections activities and build strong relationships with clients to resolve billing discrepancies and accelerate payment timelines. Reconcile Accounts Receivable subledgers to the General Ledger and ensure accuracy of financial records. Support external and government audits as required. Prepare and analyze AR reporting, cash flow forecasts, and DSO metrics for senior leadership. Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and optimize ERP systems. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Project Managers, Estimators, Contracts Administrators, and Operations teams to ensure accurate billing and timely submission of supporting documentation. Assist in resolving issues related to extras, back charges, change orders, and project variations. Contribute to broader accounting initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
What We're Looking For 7+ years of progressive Accounts Receivable and accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity. Previous experience within heavy civil construction, infrastructure, or general contracting environments in Ontario. Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Strong knowledge of construction billing practices, including progress claims, unit price contracts, change orders, holdbacks, and lien rights. Thorough understanding of Ontario's prompt payment and adjudication requirements under the Construction Act. Experience managing receivables for large, multi-year infrastructure or civil projects. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP/accounting systems such as Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, JD Edwards, or similar platforms. A proven track record of improving cash flow, reducing DSO, and implementing process improvements. Exceptional leadership, analytical, negotiation, and relationship-management skills. The ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, project-focused environment.
