Make your mark while you grow your career! The Oil Sands Royalty Supervisor is a member of the Oil Sands, Financial Controls & Tax Finance team. This individual is responsible for leading a variety of OSR royalty compliance, planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities, as well as providing OSR royalty guidance and expertise as requested by senior management and oil sands operations teams relating to Canadian Natural’s mining, thermal, and conventional oil sands projects.

The Supervisor provides guidance to a team of accountants and works with oil sands operations and other finance teams to ensure OSR royalty-reporting objectives are met. This position also regularly involves direct interaction with senior management.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, providing coaching, guidance, and performance management to support employee growth, engagement, and career development

  • Oversee Oil Sands Royalty (OSR) compliance activities, including coordinating the preparation and review of monthly OSR royalty calculation reports and annual End-of-Period Statements for submission to the Alberta Energy Oil Sands Division

  • Lead and support OSR royalty audit activities, coordinating responses to Alberta Energy audits and reviewing audit findings to ensure compliance and accuracy

  • Contribute to OSR royalty policy review and strategy, representing the company in key external engagements and advocacy initiatives related to royalty matters

  • Provide OSR royalty expertise and guidance to senior leadership and oil sands operations teams, supporting informed decision-making and regulatory compliance

  • Coordinate the development of OSR royalty forecasts prepared by Oil Sands Royalty Analysts, supporting budgeting, financial planning, and financial reporting requirements

What you Bring to the Role:

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, supported by a relevant university degree

  • Accounting designation is preferred

  • Previous supervisory and Oil Sands Royalty (OSR) experience is considered an asset but is not required

  • Attention to detail and strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Effective written and communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently within a strong team environment

  • High level of proficiency with accounting, financial, and computer systems, including advanced technical aptitude

  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, detail oriented, resourceful, demonstrated judgement, influential, strategic thinking and the ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment
