About the role

The Opportunity We are looking for an Accounting Manager to take ownership of the company’s day-to-day accounting operations while also providing the financial oversight, reporting, and analysis needed to support the business as a whole. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a smaller business environment where you can have a meaningful impact and stay closely connected to the day-to-day numbers. The Accounting Manager will oversee the full accounting function, ensuring payroll, reconciliations, reporting, and month-end activities are completed accurately and on time, while also supporting leadership with insights that help guide decision-making. This is a hands-on role that requires someone who can move comfortably between transactional accounting work and higher-level financial oversight. You’ll play an important role in keeping the financial side of the business organized, compliant, and running smoothly, while identifying opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and overall efficiency. Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and other month-end adjustments Lead month-end and year-end close activities to ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and timely Monitor cash flow, track assets and liabilities, and maintain accurate financial records across the business Investigate discrepancies and resolve accounting issues as they arise Payroll Administration Process or oversee payroll on a bi-weekly or monthly basis, including deductions, benefits, overtime, and statutory remittances Ensure payroll records are maintained accurately and in compliance with applicable legislation Review employee time tracking, approvals, and payroll-related changes Respond to payroll questions and coordinate wage, benefit, and employee status updates as required Financial Reporting & Business Support Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow, and variance analysis Develop reports, dashboards, and key metrics to provide leadership with visibility into financial and operational performance Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning Provide analysis and recommendations to support profitability, productivity, and sound business decision-making Leadership, Systems & Process Improvement Maintain oversight of the full accounting cycle and ensure strong financial controls are in place Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and system efficiency Coordinate with external accountants and advisors regarding tax filings, year-end support, and compliance matters Prepare documentation and support for audits, remittances, and other regulatory requirements Provide guidance and support to team members on accounting processes, systems, and best practices as needed What Success Looks Like in This Role Payroll is processed accurately and on time Financial reporting is reliable, timely, and useful to leadership Day-to-day accounting operations run smoothly and efficiently Month-end close is well managed and completed with accuracy Opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting are identified and implemented Leadership has clear visibility into the financial health of the business Qualifications Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with hands-on responsibility for day-to-day accounting, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting Experience working in a small or mid-sized business where balancing leadership with direct execution is required Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end close Proficiency with accounting and payroll systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms Solid knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and financial reporting practices Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with detailed financial data and reporting Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to move between detailed accounting tasks and broader financial oversight Eligible to work in Canada What We Offer RRSP Benefits Supportive, family-oriented workplace culture Opportunities for professional growth and development
