The Opportunity (Vacancy: New Headcount)
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting & Financial Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Accounting and Reporting is responsible for leading complex accounting functions, financial reporting and compliance activities within the Financial Accounting and Reporting Division. This role provides technical accounting expertise, supports internal controls, ensures regulatory compliance and contributes to financial statement preparation and audit. The role requires ongoing collaboration and communication within Finance and across departments, along with financial leadership for new initiatives, service enhancements, and changes to departmental operations. All work must ensure compliance with Town internal controls, policies, and applicable legislation, standards and municipal processes.
This position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, supporting corporate reporting requirements, and advancing process improvements both across the corporation and within the division. This position also works on special projects related to its mandate as assigned.
As the Senior Financial Analyst, Accounting & Financial Reporting, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Support preparation of year-end financial statements in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB).
- Prepare the annual Financial Information Returns (FIR).
- Support the annual external audit process, including preparation of working papers and responses to audit inquiries.
- Perform month-end and year-end close including accruals, adjustments and analyst to facilitate internal financial reporting.
- Prepare and review complex account reconciliations, and work with divisions to identity and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Support reporting and forecasting for long term debentures including financial statement notes, FIR reporting requirements, budget documentation requirements and liaison with Region of Peel.
- Prepare Staff Reports and By-laws as required including interim borrowing, audited financial statements, debenture reporting and other ad-hoc reports as required.
- Serves as backup to the Manager during absences, ensuring continuity of service delivery and delegation of duties is maintained and internal control procedures are followed.
- Provide training and support to all staff regarding accounting, month end and year end processes, and implementations as applicable including conducting training sessions, preparing documentation on procedures and responding to follow-up inquiries.
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an experienced professional with a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Economics or closely related field. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of three (3) years’ finance experience, preferably in a Municipal environment. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of municipal finance including financial reporting, financial planning/budgets, cash flows, analysis, forecasting, internal controls, development charges, in-vestments and project management, knowledge of audit processes and standards (both internal and external).We are seeking an individual who has knowledge of Corporate IT systems to facilitate financial transaction collection, reconciliation and reporting as well as audit controls.
The successful candidate for Senior Financial Analyst, Accounting & Financial Reporting will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
This position offers a salary range of $99,166.76 to $123,958.45 plus a competitive benefit package.
