Position Description
The Department of Psychiatry and Perioperative Services is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join the Department's Finance Team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Finance, you will provide integral support in the application and financial management of the Department of Psychiatry's Alternate Funding Plan (AFP) as well as support the activity of the Department Perioperative Services' financial operations. You will also provide support to, and work closely with the Psychiatry-in-Chief as well as the Director, Strategy and Business Operations, Perioperative Services.
In this role, you will be part of a team that is responsible for approximately $100+ million in revenues and will build working relationships with world renowned physicians and surgeons as you provide excellent financial assistance pertaining to budgeting, planning, forecasting, compliance and expense analysis. You will also provide excellent guidance to accounting functions for the Department by ensuring operational efficiency, internal controls and policies including system administration.
Here's what you'll get to do
- Support the Finance month-end process by processing adjustment entries, monitoring subledger input and liaising with other financial areas to ensure timely transactions.
- Prepare internal monthly and ad hoc financial reports for the Department of Psychiatry while working closely with the Psychiatrist-in-Chief to support and advise.
- Prepare Financial Statements for annual Departmental audit while providing direct support to auditors.
- Prepare monthly individual business statements for physicians.
- Develop and maintain monthly forecasts and annual budgets for the Department of Psychiatry and other AFP groups as required.
- Prepare annual reports for external stakeholders including the University of Toronto and the Ministry of Health. Oversee the completion of these external reports on a quarterly and annual basis
- Assist in preparing financial statements for external audits on Hospital On-call Coverage , the AFP Contract and Practice Plan-specific Memorandums of Understanding.
- Prepare account reconciliations, analysis and commentary of financial results, discussing results with Director and Senior Finance Manager
- Investigate opportunities for mitigation of issues, variance analysis, for the Department of Surgery's operating funds from a P&L perspective
- Assist the Senior Finance Manager in controlling and managing aspects of the Alternative Payment Plan
- Advise functional areas in the appropriate treatment of transactions in compliance with GAAP ensuring alignment with the Department's Policies and Procedures
- Partner with the management team to remain apprised of business operations
- Participate in projects, task groups, initiatives and committees as required to provide financial and business expertise
- Review all Client Expense Report submissions for adherence to existing policies prior to Director approval
- Monitor Travel and Expense Reports for timely submissions and relevant documentation is provided
- Participate in other special projects and reporting initiatives within the Department of Surgery portfolio
Here's what you'll need
- Completion of professional accounting designation is required (CPA)
- University undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting or equivalent education
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in financial accounting and auditing
- Previous experience in a Healthcare or University environment preferred
- Experience with PeopleSoft Financial, Adaptive Insights and Qlikview preferred
- Strong planning and organizational capabilities
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong analytical skills
- Creative, self-directed, innovative, results and detail oriented
- Ability to develop and deliver accurate and timely financial information
- Sound business judgment to balancing a number of complex high value projects
- Ability to identify and build strong, collaborative relationships with varied stakeholders both internally and externally
