The Senior Franchise Accountant is a key leadership role within the Finance & Accounting team at Billyard Insurance Group. This position serves as both a technical accounting expert and a system owner, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of financial reporting across the organization.

This role goes beyond traditional accounting by bridging finance operations with system functionality. It leads optimization of the ERP system (Sage Intacct), supports and enhances Broker Management Systems (Acturis and PowerBroker), and drives continuous process improvement initiatives that strengthen financial operations and scalability.

This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and enjoys combining hands-on accounting with systems leadership, process improvement, and team mentorship.

What does the Senior Franchise Accountant do?

We are seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented accounting professional with deep full-cycle accounting experience and strong proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools. The successful candidate will act as a go-to resource for accounting, ERP, and BMS-related questions while supporting continuous improvement across financial processes and reporting.

They will be comfortable working across multiple systems, managing competing priorities, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders. Strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to influence and support others are essential.

This role requires someone who takes ownership, identifies opportunities for improvement, and contributes to building a more efficient, scalable, and high-performing finance function.

You Bring

Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting Experience acting as a technical lead through coaching, mentoring, or training others Advanced systems aptitude with experience in ERP and broker management systems Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and improvement Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets and reporting tools Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting deadlines Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex financial concepts A collaborative, service-oriented approach with internal and external stakeholders Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial integrity and compliance A proactive mindset with a focus on automation, efficiency, and process optimization

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping, or related field Minimum 3 years of experience in a finance or accounting role Minimum 3 years of experience in the insurance industry Minimum 1 year of experience providing technical leadership, coaching, mentoring, or workflow coordination

Systems & Technical Skills

Advanced Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, macros, financial modelling, linked workbooks) Experience with QuickBooks Strong working knowledge of Sage Intacct ERP (reporting, administration, user support, process improvement) Advanced experience with PowerBroker and broker management system transaction flows and reporting Experience with Acturis, including reporting, reconciliation, and process optimization Experience with Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Access Knowledge of ERP implementation, system integrations, reporting, and administration

Accounting & Compliance

Strong understanding of accounting principles and full-cycle accounting Knowledge of financial reporting standards, regulatory compliance, and internal controls
