JOB TYPE: Full-time, Permanent LOCATION: Kamloops, BC SALARY RANGE: $130,000.00- $155,000.00 Annually

THE ROLE: We're looking for an experienced Senior Controller to join our Corporate Services team and lead the accounting and financial reporting function of a diversified construction company with approximately $70 million in annual revenue.

Reporting to the President, this role is responsible for the integrity of the company's financial reporting, cash flow management, internal controls, and accounting operations across multiple operating companies. Working closely with senior leadership, the Senior Controller will provide timely financial insight, strengthen financial discipline, improve reporting, and support operational decision-making. This role is ideal for an experienced Controller who enjoys building strong financial processes, developing people, and continuously improving how finance supports the business.

Technology is an important enabler of our finance strategy. The successful candidate should be comfortable leveraging Microsoft Business Central, business intelligence tools, automation, and emerging technologies to improve reporting, efficiency, and financial decision-making. This role is not expected to lead technology initiatives, but rather to champion their effective use within the finance function. As Acres continues to grow, there will be opportunities for increased responsibility for individuals who consistently demonstrate leadership, initiative, and business acumen.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Financial Stewardship

Lead the month-end and year-end financial close processes. Deliver accurate monthly financial statements, management reports, and variance analysis. Prepare annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and cash flow projections. Strengthen working capital management and financial discipline. Maintain strong internal controls and ensure the integrity of financial information. Coordinate annual audits, taxation, and regulatory compliance. Maintain banking relationships and support bonding requirements. Construction Financial Management Oversee job costing, work-in-progress reporting, revenue recognition, and intercompany accounting. Support project teams with meaningful financial reporting and analysis. Monitor project performance and identify emerging financial risks. Ensure accounting practices support accurate project reporting and sound commercial decision-making. Technology & Continuous Improvement Champion the effective use and continuous improvement of Microsoft Business Central within the finance function. Partner with internal technology resources to improve financial reporting, dashboards, and business intelligence. Identify opportunities to streamline finance processes through automation and emerging technologies. Promote strong financial data integrity, support effective ERP governance, and identify opportunities to leverage automation and AI to improve finance processes, reporting, and decision-making. Contribute to the ongoing evolution of finance systems and processes as the business grows. Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Build strong working relationships across operations, estimating, project management, equipment, and executive leadership. Support the Vice President with departmental planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives. Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insight that improves planning, profitability, and business performance.

CANDIDATE PROFILE: Financial Stewardship

CPA designation. 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Previous Senior Controller or Controller experience operating at a senior level, with the readiness to step into a Senior Controller mandate. Construction or project-based accounting experience. Strong knowledge of job costing, work-in-progress reporting, revenue recognition, and multi-entity financial reporting. Experience working with external auditors, financial institutions, and bonding companies. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, banking relationships, and external audits. Technical Capability Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, banking relationships, and external audits. Experience using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools to improve financial reporting. Strong understanding of financial controls, ERP governance, and data integrity. Demonstrated ability to improve financial processes through technology, automation, and continuous improvement. Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
