As we continue to expand, we are creating a new Accounting & Financial Controller position to strengthen our finance function and support the next phase of growth across our multi-location retail operations. This newly created role offers a unique opportunity for a hands-on and strategic finance professional to help shape financial processes, enhance reporting and internal controls, support key business decisions, and drive operational excellence across the organization. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting Hakim Optical's continued growth and long-term success. Role Summary Reporting directly to senior management, the Financial Controller will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, payroll oversight, compliance, and internal controls. The successful candidate will provide financial leadership while partnering closely with operations and management to support the company's continued growth and success. Responsibilities Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting across all business units and retail locations. Establish, maintain, and improve financial policies, procedures, and internal controls. Analyze financial performance and provide strategic recommendations to senior management. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting functions. Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors, banks, and other financial partners. Monitor compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and government reporting requirements. Support business growth initiatives through financial planning and operational analysis. Manage financial commitments, contracts, leases, and vendor relationships. Recruit, mentor, and develop accounting team members to optimize performance and engagement. Collaborate with operational leaders to improve efficiency, profitability, and decision-making. Qualifications CPA designation preferred or actively pursuing CPA (or equivalent designation recognized in Canada) Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Previous experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting role. Experience in retail, multi-location, franchise, or consumer-facing businesses is an asset Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and internal controls. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong leadership abilities with experience managing and developing teams. Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and growing organization.
