Position Summary

The Junior Financial Analyst is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of financial reporting for the Royal Ottawa Volunteer Association (ROVA) and for supporting general ledger accounting across affiliated organizations including the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG), the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research, and Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families.

Duties

Prepare monthly internal financial statements and support external financial reporting to government ministries and funding agencies (monthly, quarterly, and annually). Assist with audited annual financial statements, note disclosures, and regulatory filings, including the annual charity return. Complete and file HST returns and maintain the chart of accounts to ensure consistency and alignment with reporting requirements. Process and reconcile AR and AP/POP batches, including diagnostic billings and weekly payment runs, and manage follow-up and resolution of returned cheques and EFTs. Perform monthly general ledger reconciliations, including subledger (AP/AR) to GL, intercompany and clearing accounts, and trial balances across all entities. Analyze trial balance changes, resolve discrepancies across periods, and prepare intercompany billing requests based on reconciled balances. Prepare and post monthly journal entries while supporting general ledger maintenance and ensuring accuracy of all postings. Support internal controls, audit readiness, and the reconciliation of control and clearing accounts, ensuring alignment between subledgers and the general ledger. Ensure data accuracy in financial systems, assist with testing and configuration changes, contribute to process improvements and system enhancements, and maintain strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders. Liaise with IT and finance systems teams to troubleshoot GL, AR/AP, and reporting issues, support system upgrades/implementations, and maintain process documentation. Respond professionally to inquiries and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve accounting issues, improve processes, and ensure accurate transaction reporting.

Qualifications

3 year college diploma in Accounting or related field, or a bachelor’s degree in Finance. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a computerized accounting environment. Experience with full-cycle accounting, including AR, AP, GL, and financial statement preparation. Knowledge of accounting policies and procedures and internal control processes. Knowledge of full accounting cycle (including AR, AP, GL and FS). Knowledge of organization reporting structure and business processes. Knowledge of HST rules as they apply to a charitable organization. Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially with Excel. Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, SAP). Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to meet deadlines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment. Initiative and a continuous improvement mindset. Ability to be discrete and maintain confidentiality of information. English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Salary Range: 38.62 to 44.77 per hour
