The Lease Accountant will collaborate with varied stakeholder groups entering lease agreements at both an Operational and Corporate level, ensuring consistent application of accounting policies and procedures relating to the treatment of leases.

What You'll Do

Collaborating with the various business groups to ensure the appropriate accounting and reporting of lease activity (including real estate leases, equipment leases e.g. Railcars, lease modifications/renewals, subleases, and acquired leases, etc.) is performed in accordance with IFRS Communicate lease agreement assessments to impacted stakeholders, ensuring accurate accounting and reporting Document and implement lease assessment procedures for new lease agreements Collaborate with the other Corporate Accounting groups to review monthly, quarterly and annual accounting and reporting for lease accounting, ensuring integrity, accuracy and quality of results Review journal entries for approval Review account reconciliations, ensuring the validation of assertions and action plans for resolution are valid Oversight for the administration of the lease management tool Ensure consistent functional compliance with internal controls, SOX controls and external regulatory environment to maintain accuracy and reliability of financial information Review and compile disclosure information for Nutrien's financial statements in collaboration with the External Reporting team Foster a collaborative working relationship at all levels within Nutrien, ensuring open channels of communication with contract owners e.g. Procurement, Plant or Site Administration, Retail Finance and Transportation & Logistics Continuously seek, suggest and implement process improvement opportunities for automation, harmonization and optimization

What You'll Bring

Ability to understand multiple IFRS standards and concepts including IFRS16, research issues using various tools, and apply research to real life scenarios. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply accounting literature and legal concepts to complex accounting transactions Ability to work independently and interface with various levels of management in a multi-task, deadline orientated environment Excellent communication and analytical skills to create memos and presentations Experience with operational accounting would be ideal, however, a combination of corporate and operational experience will be considered; Competent and proficient understanding of a variety of technology platforms, including ERP’s, current Microsoft and Internet technologies. Knowledge of lease management tools would also be considered an asset Undergraduate degree most likely in business, accounting or finance; Professional accounting designation preferred A min. of 3-5 years of relevant and progressive finance or accounting experience
