About the role
We Are Hiring a Senior Tax Accountant – Remote (Canada)
We are looking for an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing team at Objective Tax & Accounting (https://objectivetax.com/). We also expect to hire a CPA Tax Manager in the near future. If that more senior, tax planning-focused role better matches your experience and career goals, we would still love to hear from you. That role offers higher compensation commensurate with experience.
This Senior Tax Accountant role is ideal for someone who enjoys more than just preparing tax returns. We want someone who enjoys helping clients understand their tax situation, solving complex problems, collaborating with colleagues, and identifying meaningful tax planning opportunities throughout the year.
Our tax practice works closely with Objective Financial Partners (https://objectivefinancialpartners.com/), one of Canada's largest advice-only financial planning firms. You will support a team of 15 CFP and Pl. Fin. professionals and work directly with clients on a wide range of tax and planning issues.
Some of the work includes:
• Complex T1 returns, including rental properties, sole proprietors, foreign income/asset reporting, investments, and other advanced tax situations • Owner-managed corporate T2 returns • T3 returns for trusts and estates • Developing and implementing tax planning strategies for business owners, investors, and retirees • Responding to tax questions from clients and collaborating with our CFP and Pl. Fin. professionals on planning matters • Meeting with prospective and existing clients to explain tax concepts and planning opportunities in plain language
We are looking for someone who:
• Has significant experience preparing complex personal and corporate tax returns • Can work independently with minimal review • Communicates well, both verbally and in writing • Is comfortable discussing tax issues directly with clients • Is organized and able to manage multiple priorities • Has experience with TaxCycle and CaseWare (an asset) • Is comfortable using technology including Zoom, Teams, and cloud-based tools • Enjoys working collaboratively and helping others succeed
A few things that make this opportunity different:
• We offer a fully remote and flexible workday • We measure success by the quality of our work and client outcomes, not by billable-hour targets • A CPA designation is not required, as strong hands-on experience in Canadian tax compliance and planning is most important • We operate a year-round tax practice with most corporate year-ends occurring outside the traditional busy season • Some of our financial planners also prepare T1 returns, creating additional capacity during tax season and helping balance workloads across the team • You will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team of bookkeepers, accountants, and financial planners • You will have significant exposure to tax planning, not just tax compliance • You will work closely with one of Canada's largest advice-only financial planning firms, giving you exposure to sophisticated tax planning opportunities that many traditional accounting firms may not offer • Most importantly, you will be joining a team that genuinely enjoys working together
Salary/bonus: $90,000 to $120,000 per year. Most hires are expected to fall near the middle of this range. Compensation toward the upper end typically reflects exceptional technical tax expertise, significant tax planning experience, and the demonstrated ability to independently manage complex files and client relationships.
If you are looking for a role where you can combine technical tax work, meaningful client relationships, and sophisticated tax planning in a collaborative, flexible environment, we would love to hear from you.
Please send your resume and a brief introduction to hr@objectivecfp.com.
