About the role

Our client is a well-established, full-service construction and maintenance company with a long-standing presence across Canada. With decades of history behind them, they've built a reputation for delivering complex projects across industrial, institutional, civil, and commercial markets, from schools and hospitals to major infrastructure and industrial facilities. If you want a career where the work you do has a visible, lasting impact on the communities around you, this is that kind of place.

Reporting to the Controller, this role supports the wider accounting function with a focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting support.

This is a full-time, in-office position based in Western Canada.

Key Responsibilities Manage the full client billing cycle across project types, gathering and verifying supporting documentation, confirming labour/equipment usage records are billed correctly, and validating that non-reimbursable costs are excluded Process holdback (retention) invoices and prepare statutory declaration forms Review equipment listings and rental rates supplied by the equipment yard Track payment certifications and collections, and flag any accounts at risk of non-payment Prepare journal entries as needed, including corrections to subcontractor invoices Assess unapproved invoices to confirm accrual figures and provide supporting commentary Liaise with the accounts payable team to identify unrecorded invoices, review with the relevant project team, and prepare journal vouchers Review cheque issuance for compliance before release, and follow up on outstanding cheques nearing their stale-dated cutoff Reconcile subcontract and vendor details, confirming billed amounts align with subcontract values and change orders Review compliance reporting and follow up with project administration staff on missing documentation Check cost coding for project-related expenses originating from shared services Compile labour and equipment usage reports for construction management projects Prepare month-end work-in-progress (WIP) reports and assist project teams with revenue forecasting Liaise with project managers on contract documentation, change orders, and other contract amendments affecting billing and payables Review and process expense claims Maintain organized project and accounting records/files Meet all month-end close deadlines Support internal and external audit requirements Maintain compliance with relevant financial governance and reporting standards (e.g., SOX, IFRS)

What You Bring A diploma or undergraduate degree in accounting 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience Solid AP/AR experience gained in construction or another high-transaction-volume environment Advanced Excel proficiency Strong organizational skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and respond to unpredictable demands under pressure Comfort working to tight deadlines and prioritizing effectively to meet them Sound analytical and problem-solving abilities Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills A results-driven mindset with a sense of urgency, suited to a fast-paced environment Strong written and verbal communication skills

A Broad and Varied Project Portfolio Few employers offer the range our client does. Their project list spans new construction and retrofits, industrial maintenance and turnarounds, civil infrastructure, and specialty trades work, meaning the type of project you work on, and the skills you build, can shift and grow throughout your career rather than staying static. Employees working in this kind of environment get exposure to public-facing builds (schools, hospitals, civic buildings) as well as large-scale industrial and infrastructure work, giving a level of variety that's hard to find at smaller or more narrowly focused firms.

A Genuine People-First Culture Our client has been recognized externally as a top employer in its region, and that reputation is backed by real policies, not just branding. Benefits include enhanced parental leave top-up for both primary and secondary caregivers, structured mentorship programs pairing employees with experienced leaders for ongoing career check-ins, and a strong internal learning culture with meaningful annual training targets per employee. Social connection is also part of day-to-day life, regular team events, family-friendly gatherings, and seasonal celebrations are part of the norm rather than the exception.

Employees consistently describe leadership as approachable and hands-on, site visits from senior leaders who know people by name, rather than a distant executive layer. It's a culture where career growth is genuinely supported: many long-tenured staff started in entry-level or coordinator roles and moved into senior leadership over time.
