This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager Finance based in Canada. The Senior Manager Finance will play a key leadership role in overseeing financial operations and supporting strategic decision-making within a complex, mission-driven environment. This position provides operational guidance to finance teams while ensuring accurate reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance processes. The role works closely with internal stakeholders, auditors, and external partners to drive financial excellence and continuous improvement. As a senior finance leader, you will coach and develop a team while contributing to organizational priorities and long-term success. Accountabilities: Lead the day-to-day operations of the finance function, providing direction and support to Finance Managers, Financial Analysts, and Finance Clerks. Build and develop high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, performance planning, and professional development support. Oversee general accounting activities, financial reporting processes, and the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements. Manage annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities while partnering with operational and corporate teams to support informed decision-making. Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to established deadlines. Ensure balance sheet accounts, payroll-related liabilities, and financial records are reconciled, supported, and audit-ready. Coordinate external reporting requirements, including funder submissions and audit preparation, while responding to auditor inquiries. Identify opportunities for process improvements and support the implementation of financial systems, tools, and operational changes. Provide complex financial analysis and insights to support strategic planning and business decisions. Participate in cross-functional projects, committees, and priority initiatives related to finance transformation and organizational improvements. Promote strong governance, confidentiality, risk management, workplace safety, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations. Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture focused on engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in business, finance, accounting, or a related field. Professional accounting designation such as CPA (CMA, CGA, or CA). Minimum of 7 years of progressive finance experience, including experience managing or leading finance teams. Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, including experience with not-for-profit organizations or private enterprises. Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, funder reporting, and audit preparation. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship management skills. Ability to coach teams, build partnerships, and effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information and provide actionable recommendations. Experience managing change, improving processes, and implementing new systems or operational practices. Advanced computer skills, including experience with financial systems and tools such as SAP, BOARD, Excel, and Outlook. Commitment to achieving results, meeting deadlines, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality. French language skills are considered an asset in designated areas. Ability to complete required background screening, including criminal records and vulnerable sector checks where applicable.
