About Baseline Baseline is a growing fintech software company building an end-to-end platform for private lenders. Our platform helps lenders manage the full lifecycle of a loan, including origination, borrower applications, document generation, payments, servicing, investor management and reporting. Because our clients rely on Baseline to manage complex financial workflows, product quality and reliability are critical. We are looking for a QA Automation Engineer who can help us improve our testing practices, expand our automated coverage and deliver a more consistent experience to our users.

About the Role You will work closely with our engineering, product and design teams to test new functionality, identify risks and improve the quality of our releases. This is a hands-on role combining automated testing, exploratory testing and release validation. You will have meaningful ownership over our QA processes, but you will not be expected to build the entire quality function alone. A major focus of the role will be expanding our automated test coverage using Playwright and JavaScript. You will also help determine which workflows should be automated and which are better validated through manual or exploratory testing. This role is a good fit for someone who has practical automation experience and is ready to take greater ownership while continuing to grow.

What You’ll Do Build, maintain and improve automated end-to-end tests using Playwright and JavaScript. Create automated tests for critical user journeys across our React application. Develop API-level tests for important backend workflows and integrations. Perform exploratory and manual testing for new features, edge cases and complex financial workflows. Work with the product team and developers to understand requirements and identify potential risks before development is complete. Help define clear acceptance criteria and test scenarios. Investigate defects, document reproducible steps and work with developers to validate fixes. Participate in release testing and help improve confidence in production deployments. Identify the highest-risk areas of the platform and prioritize testing accordingly. Improve the reliability, speed and maintainability of our automated test suite. Help establish practical QA standards, documentation and repeatable testing processes. Contribute to decisions about where automation, manual testing and AI-assisted testing provide the most value.

What Success Looks Like During your first few months, you will: Become familiar with Baseline’s key products, users and lending workflows. Understand our current testing processes and existing automated coverage. Begin improving and expanding tests for our most important user journeys. Help reduce regression issues in frequently used areas of the platform. Create clearer and more repeatable release-validation processes.

Over time, you will help us increase automated coverage, identify quality risks earlier and make releases more predictable.

What We’re Looking For Exceptional attention to detail. Approximately 3 or more years of experience in software quality assurance, testing or a closely related role, with a demonstrated track record of delivering reliable, high-quality results. Hands-on experience building, maintaining and debugging automated test suites, with careful attention to stability, readability and long-term maintainability. Experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or a similar browser-automation framework, including writing precise and deterministic end-to-end tests. Working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript, with the ability to write clean, well-structured and well-documented test code. Experience testing modern web applications, ideally including React-based products, with an understanding of component behaviour and state management. Experience testing APIs using tools such as Postman, Playwright, REST clients or automated API-testing frameworks, including validating edge cases and error conditions. Strong exploratory-testing and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify subtle defects and inconsistencies that may not be covered by automated tests. Ability to clearly and thoroughly document defects, test scenarios and expected behaviour, including precise reproduction steps and supporting evidence. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate findings clearly and collaborate effectively across teams. Ability to work independently while maintaining close alignment with developers and product managers, ensuring shared understanding of requirements and quality expectations. A practical and disciplined mindset about automation: you understand when automation adds value, when manual validation is more appropriate and how to balance both effectively.

Nice to Have

Experience testing fintech, lending, banking, payments or other financial software. Experience working with CI/CD pipelines. Experience with GitHub Actions or similar continuous-integration tools. Experience testing third-party integrations, webhooks or payment workflows. Experience working in a growing SaaS company. Experience using AI-assisted development or testing tools.
