Senior Business Intelligence Engineer Job Type: Contract (4 months, potential for extension) Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid) Rate: $60-65 per hour

The Business Intelligence, Process & Innovation team is on an exciting journey from traditional dashboard reporting to AI-enabled, decision-driven analytics that deliver measurable business outcomes across a diverse investment portfolio.
Your New Role As a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer, you will serve as the Power BI subject matter expert responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing enterprise-scale business intelligence solutions. Working closely with investment professionals, portfolio analytics teams, finance, risk, and other corporate stakeholders, you will build scalable analytics products that support investment decision-making and portfolio performance. You will lead the end-to-end delivery of Power BI solutions, including semantic models, datasets, dashboards, and reporting frameworks. This role requires a strong combination of hands-on technical expertise, stakeholder engagement, performance optimization, and data storytelling to transform complex data into meaningful business insights.
What You'll Need to Succeed 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise Power BI solutions. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline. Expert-level experience with: Power BI Desktop Power BI Service Power Query (M) DAX Semantic Modelling Data Visualisation Best Practices Proven experience building enterprise-grade semantic models, datasets, reports, and dashboards. Strong expertise troubleshooting and optimising Power BI performance, including complex DAX calculations, refresh processes, and large-volume datasets. Experience with GitHub source control and CI/CD deployment practices for Power BI assets. Strong understanding of BI governance, security, reusable data models, and reporting standards. Experience partnering with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver analytics solutions that drive business outcomes. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Experience supporting investment, portfolio analytics, capital markets, asset management, risk, finance, or other highly analytical business environments. Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable reporting and analytics solutions. Experience managing multiple concurrent initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Nice-to-Have Skills Experience with Microsoft Fabric and AI-enabled analytics capabilities. Familiarity with Power BI Copilot, AI Instructions, Verified Answers, and AI-optimised semantic models. Experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse Analytics, or similar cloud data platforms. Exposure to Microsoft Fabric Data Agents, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, or agentic analytics frameworks. Experience applying data storytelling methodologies and action-oriented reporting frameworks.
