About the role

Ready to take the next step in your career?

Join a global company shaping the future with technology that drives lasting impact.

Hypertec is seeking a Construction Project Controller to join our Construction team in Montreal. If you are motivated, collaborative, and aligned with our values, we would love to hear from you.

We believe that how we work is just as important as what we build. Our values reflect the mindset we bring to everything we do:

  • Innovation
  • Trust
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Customer Focus

The Construction Project Controller is the financial and operational partner throughout the full lifecycle of mission-critical construction projects. Acting as the bridge between Operations and Finance, this role ensures project performance, cost, schedule, procurement, and commercial activities are accurately reflected in project forecasts and reporting.

The ideal candidate has a strong construction background and understands how projects are built, managed, and delivered. This position is intended for someone with hands-on experience in construction project management, project controls, engineering, or field operations—not a traditional accountant. Success in this role requires the ability to speak the language of construction while translating project activity into reliable financial information for leadership.

What You’ll Be Contributing:

  • Partner with Project Managers from project award through closeout to monitor financial and operational performance.
  • Participate in weekly project meetings and provide financial and commercial insight.
  • Develop and maintain project cost reports, forecasts, cash flow projections, and executive dashboards.
  • Monitor budgets, commitments, subcontracts, purchase orders, contingencies, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Track customer and subcontractor change orders through identification, pricing, approval, billing, and closeout.
  • Monitor project schedules and understand the cost impact of schedule changes, delays, and acceleration.
  • Track procurement of major equipment and long-lead materials to identify schedule or cost risks.
  • Monitor commissioning progress, milestone completion, turnover activities, and project closeout readiness.
  • Support customer milestone billing, progress billings, and revenue recognition by ensuring project information is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain project KPI reporting including budget vs. actual, forecast final cost, committed costs, gross margin, change order status, procurement status, cash flow, and schedule health.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities and work with Project Managers to develop mitigation plans.
  • Maintain risk and opportunity registers and ensure financial impacts are reflected in project forecasts.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, AP, AR, Operations, and Executive Leadership to ensure alignment across project activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement of project controls, forecasting methodologies, reporting tools, and best practices.

What Sets You Apart:

  • 5+ years of experience in construction project management, project controls, project engineering, field engineering, estimating, or similar construction roles.
  • Strong understanding of commercial, industrial, or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules, contracts, drawings, procurement plans, and change orders.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Sciences, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with SAP, Procore, Autodesk, or equivalent construction management software. Experience on data centre, infrastructure, industrial, or large commercial construction projects.
  • Experience supporting projects exceeding $50M in value.

What’s In it For You:

  • Hybrid work model for certain job categories, supported by competitive benefits.

  • Comprehensive health benefits that ensure you and your family are covered for a wide range of medical needs.

  • Health Spending Account (HSA).

  • Employer-matched RRSP Program.

  • Paid Floater Days.

  • Our head office will soon relocate to a new, state-of-the-art facility in LaSalle, near the Lachine Canal. Designed to set new standards in sustainability, it reflects our commitment to responsible growth and innovation.
