We have an opportunity for an Accountant within our Finance Department at our Head office, located in Vancouver, BC. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Accountant will support the full-cycle accounting function for the organization. This role offers exposure to financial reporting, AP/AR, costing, ERP systems, tax compliance and process improvement initiatives. The accountant will work closely with GCT’s operating and finance teams. You will be responsible for the following general duties: * Understand the depth and breadth of the internal accounting processes and systems, including Billing, AR, AP, Purchasing, Fixed Assets and Union Payroll and be able to provide recommendations to enhance accuracy, efficiency, controls or reporting quality * Provide high level support for above subledgers and be able to troubleshoot * Maintain an understanding of the in-house billing system and accounts receivable procedures as well as a sound grasp of ocean carrier contracts to accurately record revenue accruals * Understand the Collective Agreement and Canada Labour Code to approve select timesheets and verify all timesheets as a backup to the Payroll Coordinator * Estimate and calculate union labour payroll fringe benefits such as vacation pay, medical leave, WCB and prepare union labour payroll journal entries and reconciliations * Understand the capitalized maintenance process and prepare journal entries in Fixed Asset subledger * Involved in the month end closing process including generating and preparing monthly journal entries including accruals and expense reports, perform account reconciliations and analysis and close subledgers at month end * Have a thorough understanding of the PST, GST and withholding tax regulations and provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders and be current with regulations * Prepare regulatory filings (e.g. WCB, Statistics Canada) * Support Treasury / FP&A on recording cash flow transactions, cash flow forecast monitoring * Prepare and file monthly GST and PST returns when necessary * Prepare year-end audit working papers and assist with audit as required * Assist with semi-annual tax provision working papers * Assist in ERP system administration and backup as required * ad-hoc analysis and projects as required REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: * Almost completed your CPA designation or are a newly designated CPA with three or more years of related work experience as an Accountant with full cycle accounting experience * Collaborative and able to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Proactive self-starter who is able take on a multitude of tasks * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills * Ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, controls or reporting quality * Proven ability to prepare and post journal entries with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail * Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Excel, and other productivity tools (Sharepoint, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) * Strong systems background, including experience using Infor CSF or similar ERP * Comfortable with system implementation and testing Compensation * Salary Range $93,264 - $109,104. * Annual Incentive Plan * Competitive benefits including a defined benefit pension plan LEADERSHIP PRACTICES Model the Way – Leaders find their voice by clarifying their personal values and expressing them in a style that is authentically their own, and they set the example by aligning actions with shared values.
