Role at a Glance As a Payroll Specialist, you'll play a crucial role in managing payroll processes for our multi-province integrated design firm. This position requires a strong understanding of payroll principles, regulations, and best practices, coupled with demonstrated experience in processing payroll accurately and efficiently. The Payroll Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for all payroll-related inquiries and ensures compliance with applicable laws and company policies. This role offers an opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to contribute to the smooth operation of payroll processes and ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations within a dynamic consulting firm environment. What you will do Process payroll for 350+ employees accurately and on time, including calculation of wages, deductions, and taxes. Maintain payroll system, records, and employee information in compliance with confidentiality and data protection policies. Respond promptly to employee inquiries regarding payroll, taxes, benefits, and other related matters. Coordinate with HR and finance departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations, and changes to employee status, including ROEs. Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies to ensure accuracy of payroll data. Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports in compliance with federal and provincial regulations. Stay informed about changes in payroll laws and regulations and update payroll systems and procedures accordingly. Assist in the preparation of payroll-related financial reports and analysis as needed. Assist in audits of payroll records and processes, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards. Contribute to special project teams, as required. Proactively identify areas for improvement and assist with the re-engineering of internal processes to improve functionality and efficiency. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in payroll-related roles. Proficiency in Dayforce and Microsoft Excel. Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field in an asset. Knowledge of legislation and governance of payroll and employment standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in handling personal information. Working Conditions The Payroll Specialist operates within a framework of collaborative decision-making, consulting with higher-level authorities to ensure adherence to best practices and timely task execution. They conduct independent analysis, exercising judgment in interpreting data and resolving complexities, while providing guidance to junior colleagues. With a minimum of 5 years' experience and a PCP designation, they navigate tasks under general direction, emphasizing proactive understanding of processes.
