Job summary
Payroll Services at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Payroll Associate to join our Payroll team on a 18-month temporary contract. As a member of the bargaining unit, this position is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of payroll for unionized and non-unionized employees, ensuring compliance with collective agreements, payroll legislation, organizational policies, and established payroll procedures. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and customer service skills, a high degree of accuracy, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced payroll environment. Key Tasks Payroll Administration Process payroll transactions accurately and on schedule for unionized and non-unionized employees. Import payroll templates and reconcile payroll data to payroll totals. Review, investigate, and correct timecard and payroll discrepancies. Process employee terminations and final pay calculations. Prepare and submit Records of Employment (ROEs). Prepare payroll disbursement requisitions and related documentation. Update payroll records for employees returning from leaves of absence. Calculate, process, and recover payroll overpayments as required. Administer union dues setup and maintenance, ensuring accurate employee deductions and compliance with collective agreement requirements Administer garnishment orders and related payroll deductions. Calculate and process retroactive payments in accordance with collective agreements, policy changes, and payroll requirements on a bi-weekly basis. Employee and Management Support Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and management in a timely and professional manner. Assist employees in navigating Employee Self-Service (ESS) tools and resources. Provide support in interpreting pay statements, earnings, deductions, and payroll calculations Qualifications/Skills Completion of a college diploma in Payroll, Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, or enrollment in the PCP program, is considered an asset. Experience processing payroll in a unionized environment is preferred. Working knowledge of payroll legislation, Employment Standards, Canada Revenue Agency requirements, and collective agreement provisions related to payroll administration. Experience with computerized payroll and HRIS systems. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet strict payroll deadlines.
