Job summary

Senior Accounting Manager: Path to Controller RackAir Inc. | Toronto Area | Full-time, on-site | Company-wide mandate Built on Accountability. Build the Finance Function. Then Run It. Most accounting jobs hand you a system someone else built and ask you to keep it running. This one hands you a 35-year commercial HVAC and mechanical service firm expanding into the GTA, and asks you to build the system. The close calendar. The WIP process. The budget cycle. The reporting the CEO runs the company on. Yours to design, yours to own, yours to defend. You report directly to the CEO. No layers, no committees, no waiting for sign-off from three levels up. Then you earn the Controller seat running what you built. If you want a department with a manual, stop reading. If you want to be the person who wrote it, apply. Who We Are Built on Accountability. That's not a slogan. It's how the work gets done here. RackAir delivers commercial HVAC and mechanical service, maintenance agreements, and project work across multi-site portfolios, and we win on the things most contractors treat as afterthoughts: documentation clients can actually use, compliance records that hold up under scrutiny, a named contact who answers, and work that's done right the first time because we don't cut corners. Anywhere, ever. The same standard applies inside the company. Clean records, disciplined process, and accountability that's owned, not assigned. Finance is no exception, which is why this seat matters. What You'll Build and Own The accounting engine Full-cycle accounting company-wide, across both branches: AR/AP, reconciliations, GL, payroll support, HST A month-end close you design and run on a fixed calendar: accurate, documented, non-negotiable BuildOps-to-accounting integration: invoicing integrity, job costing, revenue recognition on service agreements and project work Project and contract financials WIP reporting: work-in-progress schedules, percentage-of-completion tracking, over/under billing analysis across multi-site service contracts and project work Full lifecycle tracking on every contract, from signed agreement through billing, cost accumulation, margin realization, and renewal Job-level and branch-level margin reporting against our gross margin model Budgeting and forecasting Full annual budgeting cycle for both branches. You build it, present it, and track actuals against it monthly 13-week rolling cash flow forecast, maintained weekly and trusted for real decisions Monthly bank reporting packages, owned end to end Compliance HST, payroll remittances, WSIB, and financial compliance calendar, owned end to end Year-end coordination with our external accounting firm Documentation standards that would survive any audit Your team Direct oversight of invoicing and admin support as the function grows As we scale, you build your accounting team. You define the roles, you hire, you develop them Path to Controller Milestone-gated, not tenure-gated. Expected timeline: 18 to 24 months, faster if you earn it faster. The Controller title and mandate come when you've demonstrated: Close ownership. Three consecutive independent month-end closes, on calendar, no material year-end adjustments WIP and contract reporting. Lifecycle tracking running monthly, trusted by leadership for pricing and resourcing decisions Budget ownership. A full annual budget cycle built and defended, with variance reporting leadership acts on Bank reporting. Full ownership of the reporting package with zero CEO involvement Team readiness. Support staff directed effectively, external accountant relationship managed independently As Controller, you own the entire finance function of a multi-branch company in aggressive growth mode, and you'll have built every piece of it yourself.
