Ozz Electric is looking for a Payroll Manager! The Payroll Manager is accountable for the timely and accurate completion of all payroll operations. This includes directing and supporting the full-cycle payroll processes for both union and non-union personnel, and providing assistance to the Payroll Administrator and/or Analyst throughout the payroll cycle. Additionally, the Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing the Electrician Apprenticeship Program in coordination with the Human Resources Department, the Electrical Training Alliance, and the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities. Role And Responsibilities Manage and oversee full-cycle multi payroll administration for union and non-union employees using a third-party payroll provider Support and guide Payroll Administrators, including assisting with processing when necessary. Review and audit all time sheet data to ensure accuracy, proper coding, and compliance with policies and collective agreements. Ensure accurate processing of all payroll-related items, including sick pay, benefits, vacation payouts, statutory deductions, and adjustments. Oversee the preparation, reconciliation, and submission of payments and remittances (e.g., source deductions, WSIB, EHT, and benefit remittances to local union benefit offices). Oversee payroll-related reporting for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery. Manage the year-end process, including reconciliations, government filings, and the issuance of T4s, T2200s, W-2’s and other required documentation. Respond to inquiries from employees, auditors, and government agencies regarding payroll matters, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Prepare labour, job costing, and site-specific reports as requested by management. Ensure all payroll-related journal entries are accurately posted and supervise the preparation of month-end binders for the Finance Department, including reconciliations for each payroll account on the trial balance. Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee payroll files and documentation. Oversee administration of the Market Recovery Plan and collaborate with Site Superintendents to validate work lists and eligibility. Manage the Electrician Apprenticeship Program in collaboration with Human Resources, the Electrical Training Alliance, and the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities. Provide exceptional service to employees by addressing payroll questions promptly and professionally. Recommend process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency within the payroll department. Perform other related duties as assigned. Skills And Qualifications Minimum of 6 years’ experience with comprehensive full-cycle payroll administration and management. 5–7+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience. PCP certification required. Experience managing full-cycle payroll in a unionized environment is required. Post-secondary degree in Business or Accounting is an asset. Experience with the Jonas payroll system is preferred. Strong knowledge of all applicable federal, provincial, and local payroll legislation. Demonstrated proficiency in communication, interpersonal relations, and organizational skills. Experience with both Canadian and U.S. payroll, including knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations. Interprovincial payroll experience. Experience processing high-volume hourly unionized payroll (1,000+ employees). Experience with ADP Workforce Now for payroll volumes of 150+ employees. Skills And Key Competencies Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective problem-solving abilities with sound decision-making skills to drive tasks forward. Ability to perform well under pressure and meet established deadlines. Ability to attend meetings and deliver presentations as needed. Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrated reliability and ability to work collaboratively as a team player. WORKING CONDITIONS Manual dexterity to operate a computer and related peripherals. Willingness to work overtime when required. Ability to lift or move up to 10 lbs as necessary. Occasional travel may be required.
