Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced Accountant who possesses exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing complex financial data, preparing financial reports, and providing strategic insights to HQC's leadership team to support decision-making processes within the organization. This position presents a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the financial future of our organization. Responsibilities Responsible for ensuring all financial controls, practices and reporting are compliant with Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards. Timely preparation of monthly financial statements including conducting monthly variance analyses to assess and report on financial performance. Presentation of financial statements to the Executive Director, Directors, and Managers to review financial performance and variance analyses monthly. Preparing year-end financial statements and notes in accordance with Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards for publication in the annual report and tabling in the legislature. Compiling financial reports as required by the Ministry of Health and other external entities, involving the collection, in-depth analysis, and concise summarization of accounting data and relevant trends. Offering comprehensive support and financial expertise in the development, compilation, and management of annual budgets while also providing guidance to Directors and Managers regarding budgeting. Responsible for HQC's payroll functions, ensuring pay and remittances are processed on time and accurately to comply with legislation (Canada Pension, Plan, Employment Insurance, Saskatchewan Labour Standards, federal and provincial tax, pension, benefit deductions, etc.) Responsible for identifying the correct withholdings of income tax obligations for payments for services provided in Canada by non-residents to comply with legislation and regulations. Responsible for the collection and remittance of GST and PST to comply with legislation and regulations. Responsible for ensuring accounts payable obligations are met efficiently to meet purchasing terms of suppliers. Responsible for determining corporate cash flow requirements to maintain appropriate cash flow. Recommend funds to be invested to grow assets while maintaining appropriate access to assets protecting their value. Responsible for accurate financial oversight and management of grants, including allowable costs charged to grants, tracked, and invoiced accurately and reconciliation processes are in place with the funder to ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Preparing invoices and maintaining accounts receivable. Responsible for recording and maintaining records for capital asset acquisition, disposal, and amortization. Preparing for both interim and annual audits and working with the Provincial Auditor to finalize the audit. Responsible for identifying, recommending, and implementing process improvements in the finance and accounting area, such as electronic record keeping and digital banking. Recommend, draft, and follow financial controls, financial policies and procedures to ensure the proper use of financial resources and to mitigate financial risk including fraud and theft. Additional Information: Position Pay Band: $83,317.68 to $108,312.92 This position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and is onsite work located in Saskatoon. This posting will remain open until filled. Job Qualifications Required Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in Business or Commerce majoring in Accounting or Finance. Minimum 5 years of accounting experience. Some experience working in the public sector. Knowledge of various computer software - Advanced skills with database and spreadsheet programs (Access and Excel), and word processing programs (Word), as well as advance experience with accounting software including Sage 300. Strong proficiency in financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting. Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights. Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and best practices. Excellent communication, with a proven track record of effectively presenting financial information to senior management and stakeholders. Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines. Employees must also provide and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.
