Specific accountabilities

Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, you will manage the Company's payroll activities (1,000 employees) for groups of Canadian and international payrolls. You will manage and supervise a team of professionals and ensure the integrity and respect of deadlines in the production of different paydays. You will play an active role in implementing the new Workday system and develop the corresponding new processes. Other duties include the management of the salary and benefits budget as well as quarterly analysis/reconciliations of salaries for budget purposes. You will work closely with members of teams such as Human Resources, Finance and Treasury and with external suppliers.

  • Verify and ensure the production of payroll for employees located in Canada and international offices in accordance with pay schedules of the various countries and with the collaboration of various suppliers (using the current system, ADP, and eventually Workday for Canada, and ADP Streamline for international offices);
  • Collaborate with working groups to define Workday business processes and make decisions concerning the payroll and time management modules;
  • Supervise and approve configurations, and eventual updates in Workday, following all applicable processes and rules;
  • Monitor legal developments and implement the required changes regarding time tracking, leave, absences and payroll for all the countries where the Company manages employees;
  • Carry out all year-end closing procedures;
  • Participate in setting up payroll when opening a new office abroad;
  • Work with the internal mobility team to support employees on international assignments, specifically as regards hypothetical taxes;
  • Take part in the annual budget process, answering questions as required;
  • Analyze quarterly real salaries paid versus budgeted salaries and ensure that the quarterly payroll register is consistent with the general ledger of the Finance Department;
  • Work with Treasury group to ensure that the necessary funds for payroll are in bank accounts. Check monthly bank reconciliation and journal entries payroll accounts;
  • Perform the salary inter company billings;
  • Play crucial role of payroll compliance officer while ensuring that the Company continues to comply with requirements and changes in federal, provincial, state legislation;
  • Respond to requests from external auditors and governments;
  • Plan, organize, direct and control the work done by the payroll team (2 employees);
  • Provide support to the Senior Director, Total Rewards in the development and implementation of various projects of the service;
  • Perform other related or required duties.

Key requirements

  • College diploma in accounting or finance and certified payroll manager designation from the Canadian Payroll Association completed or underway;
  • Minimum eight years' experience in payroll for several countries, including two years as a team manager;
  • Demonstrable accounting skills: ability to record accounting entries, manage complex reconciliations and track budgets;
  • Experience with Workday or another ERP system that is not an external payroll solution;
  • Experience in setting up a payroll system;
  • Ability to handle stress, meet tight deadlines and detail oriented;
  • Result oriented, ability to build relationships for achieving and exceeding targets;
  • Autonomous, good ability to manage priorities and ability to work under pressure with multi-tasks skills;
  • Ability to work in a team and with stakeholders from different hierarchical levels;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications (Word and Excel);
  • Bilingual French and English, both spoken and written.
