ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN

Under the direction of the Vice-President, Finance and Administration, the Accounting Technician performs general accounting duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PERTAINING TO THE POSITION

  • Performs processing of purchase journal, cash receipts journal, sales journal and general journal data;
  • Makes entries for accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, depreciation, credit cards and payroll and ensures the integrity of the relevant balance sheet accounts;
  • Maintains up to date the fixed asset register;
  • Prepares documentation and invoice necessary for billing of travel expenses;
  • Prepares weekly cash flow disbursements;
  • Analyzes incomes and expense items monthly and as needed;
  • Performs bank reconciliations and deposits on a daily basis;
  • Performs the complete accounts payable cycle from receipt of invoices to payment;
  • Performs a portion of the accounts receivable cycle;
  • Validates the group insurance invoice and premiums paid on the payroll;
  • Reconciles the corporate petty cash;
  • Prepares expense accounts and ensures compliance (including credit cards and cash advances to employees);
  • Performs verification upon receipt of payroll register and makes general ledger journal entries;
  • Prepares quarterly GST/QST reports;
  • Prepares the year-end file for the review mission in collaboration with the VP Finance and Administration;
  • Opens the project codes in Scéno Contact (dep. account) and in SAGE 300;
  • Writes and updates the accounting procedures that concern him/her;
  • Performs all other related duties.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATION/KNOWLEDGE BASE

  • DEC in accounting;
  • At least 5 years of experience in SME business in accounting;
  • Good knowledge of the complete accounting cycle;
  • Good knowledge of Sage 300 software;
  • Mastery of Excel and MS Office suite;
  • Analytical skills, dynamic and involved in the work environment;
  • Oral and written bilingualism is an asset.
