 The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is the organization that provides governmental, administrative, and operational services to the community of Kahnawà:ke, that is situated along the southern shore of the St. Lawrence River, across from the City of Montreal.   The organizational structure of the MCK is comprised of two main sectors:  political and administrative/operational. The political sector of the MCK is comprised of the Council of Chiefs and the Office of the Council of Chiefs. The Council of Chiefs is the primary governing body of the MCK and provides political direction on matters concerning Kahnawà:ke and its affairs. The Office of the Council of Chiefs (OCC) provides support services to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Chiefs. Those services include negotiation, advisory, technical and general supports. The MCK is also indirectly linked to most of the community's main organizations through the Executive Directors Committee.

The main purpose of this job:

To govern over the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake's fiscal affairs. The EFO establishes and directs fiscal strategy, policy, and standards. Sets and manages the global financial envelope based on community and Council priorities. The Executive Financial Officer ensures proper planning, implementation, management and control over all financial related activities with the goal of protecting the fiscal integrity and stability of the organization.

Top 6 Responsibilities:

  1. Determines and directs the financial functions of MCK and establishes fiscal policy guidelines
  2. Develops the Community and Council priorities to determine the organizational financial needs and fiscal envelope;
  3. Ensures proper execution of all financial priorities and accountability, and compliance protecting the financial integrity of MCK;
  4. Fosters and and cultivates fiscal relationships and acts as MCK's financial spokesperson to the Community; fosters and ensures transparency, trust and integrity
  5. Protects the financial integrity of community funds through systems, processes and mechanisms;
  6. Advises, reports, and seeks endorsement from the Council of Chiefs, the Finance, Administration & Operations Committee, and the Executive Office;

    
Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce/Business Administration, major in Accounting or Finance (MBA an asset)
  • A minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience
  • Knowledgeable of all current financial and economic trends and environment
  • Strong financial modelling and assessment skills, and ability to make difficult decisions to ensure financial stability;
  • Strong problem solving, crisis and risk management skills
  • Enjoys a challenge, is passionate, assertive and demonstrates excellent judgement and integrity; Is dedicated to the community's well-being
  • Ability to communicate in the Kanien'kéha and French languages is an asset
