The main purpose of this position is to assist in compliance with Transfer Pricing legislation in Canada and in other jurisdictions where the Bank operates. This includes helping in the establishment of transfer pricing methodologies and policies according to OECD transfer pricing guidelines

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Support the management and implementation efforts of the Bank's transfer pricing policies, to ensure compliance with the Canadian transfer pricing legislation and proper co-ordination with similar legislative requirements in other countries where the Bank operates.
  • Help identify and minimize tax exposure for cross border transactions, including transactions between Head Office and foreign branches and subsidiaries, as well as transactions among foreign subsidiaries and branches.
  • Create and manage Transfer Pricing documentation.
  • Ensure relevant branches, subsidiaries and departments maintain documentation adequate to the growing requirements of government tax authorities for all jurisdictions with respect to cross-border transactions as reported.
  • Support Transfer Pricing processes: identification of transactions, services, agreements
  • Review and provide advice and counsel on all relevant intra-group cross border agreements to ensure that the related party transactions are priced at market.
  • Assist in managing CRA audits of non-arm's length cross-border transactions. Provide due diligence regarding the adequacy of the pricing and its relevance to the comparable market value.
  • Liaise with operational management, across all business lines, to provide transfer pricing advice with respect to various business opportunities and transactions as required.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with key stakeholders in Head Office, subsidiaries, and branches, including all business lines, and support roles in different levels of authority.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • An economist, lawyer, or CA with experience in transfer pricing in a corporate multinational tax environment, or commensurate experience in a transfer pricing advisory role. In depth knowledge with OECD transfer pricing requirements and regulations.
  • Minimum of six years' experience in a corporate financial multinational tax environment is required. However, a strong transfer pricing background in an advisory role to financial institutions may be substituted.
  • Knowledge of Scotiabank's foreign business operations, including both the branches and subsidiaries is a definite asset.
  • Must be able to identify the transfer pricing issues and assist with finding market comparables and implementing complex transfer pricing solutions.
  • Experience applying control and accounting rules to taxation and related structures.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to nontechnical executives and others.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence others to ensure change is adopted and operationalized.
  • A working knowledge of the interaction between transfer pricing and other areas of taxation, such as international tax and corporate tax is an asset.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is an asset.
