Our Thunder Bay location in Ontario, Canada is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Sr. Staff Accountant. This job is permanent, full-time. The preferred starting date would be 2017-09-05.

Your challenges:

As the Senior Staff Accountant, you will be a key member of the Accounting team with responsibilities focusing on providing advanced financial analysis for the Woodlands Senior Management group regarding wood costs and road costs, with specific emphasis on variance analysis, month end accruals, month end and corporate reporting, budgeting, forecasting and ad-hoc analysis.

Your primary Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Preparation of accurate, timely and relevant information to meet all monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements.  This includes:  accounting entries, reconciliations, corporate schedules, variance analysis and presentations.
  • Ensure accurate recording of road costs and recoveries, capital reporting, and providing support to operations personnel and the government reporting process.
  • Planning and coordinating the annual budget process and quarterly forecasts, providing guidance and assistance to Woodlands departments, preparation and analysis of working papers, schedules and presentations. 
  • Handling inquiries and requests from both local management and corporate. 
  • Participate in/preparation of special assignments and analysis as initiated by the Site Accounting Manager, Woodlands General Manager and other Operating Department Managers. 
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of accounting records. 
  • Support and ensure adherence to corporate and local policies and procedures.

Your team:

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will be part of a results-oriented team whose members are encouraged to exceed expectations.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Accounting.
  • CPA (CA, CMA or CGA) accounting designation is required.
  • 5+ years of work experience within an industrialized manufacturing setting.

Your skills and assets:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills required, including an ability to work collaboratively within a fast paced and structured environment.
  • Good communication skills with excellent strategic thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance priorities that meet short and long-term objectives; uses organized and efficient work methods.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail that helps provide financial leadership.
  • Proficient in MS Office, advanced Excel skills, PowerPoint, SAP and CODA would be an asset.
  • Keen desire to be a part of a dedicated, hardworking team.
